Summary

The post will be based at Salford Royal Hospital of the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust (NCA) and available on a 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) PAs. 

The post offers excellent opportunities for you to develop as a Rheumatology Consultant and contribute to service development to shape the future of the Trust’s Rheumatology Service. 

The incoming post-holder will be encouraged to develop a special interest.

The service covers a population of around 220,000 people, with over 1 million in-patient and day case admissions, outpatient appointments and community contacts for patients per year.

The successful candidate will join the Rheumatology Directorate at the Trust, staffed by ten Rheumatology consultants, five Rheumatology specialist nurses, a senior clinical fellow, a consultant physiotherapist, an advanced practice AHP, as well as two rotational junior medical staff on the NW Rheumatology rotation and one general medical trainee.

The directorate has five dedicated inpatient beds on a ward shared with dermatology, and good access to day-patient beds. The Rheumatology department actively encourages research, with existing research activity in systemic sclerosis, digital health, metabolic bone disease, musculoskeletal pain, myositis, axial spondyloarthritis and pharmacoepidemiology. The department is a regional centre for connective tissue disease.

The post will be based at the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust, with main base being Salford Royal Hospital, but clinics and ward work primarily undertaken at Fairfield Hospital and Rochdale Infirmary.

This post is available as 10 Programmed Activities (PAs), but less than full-time applicants would be considered. 

The post offers excellent opportunities for you to develop as a Rheumatology Consultant and contribute to service development and shape the future of the Trust’s Rheumatology Service. The incoming post-holder will be encouraged to develop a special interest.

The post holder will:

• Be expected to contribute to multidisciplinary team activity, adapt to differing local service needs, and maintain close collaboration with colleagues. 

• Review new admissions or unstable in-patients on an ad hoc basis.

• Provide clinical advice and support for ward referrals / in-patients, for ED opinions and for GP advice and guidance, When rota’d on a shift as “consultant of the day”.
