Summary

1. Clinical Delivery & Community X-Ray Car Service Deliver high-quality diagnostic radiography autonomously across hospital sites (BRI, SLH), Community Diagnostic Centres (CDCs), and community settings. Lead and operate the Community X-Ray Car Service, driving to and conducting mobile imaging examinations in care homes, community hubs, and patient residences for frail and vulnerable patients. Adapt imaging techniques appropriately to accommodate complex patient needs, limited mobility, or non-standard environments. 2. Radiation Safety & RPS Duties Serve as a designated Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS) for the department and mobile service, taking direct responsibility for local radiation safety compliance. Enforce and monitor strict compliance with IR(ME)R 2017 and IRR17 regulations, local rules, and statutory health and safety standards. Establish radiation controlled areas and conduct safety risk assessments when operating mobile X-ray equipment outside fixed hospital environments. 3. Staff Supervision, Mentorship & Training Provide clinical leadership, daily supervision, and mentorship to junior radiographers, assistant practitioners, radiographic assistants, and radiography students. Delegate duties effectively, communicate clear expectations, and assist in training and assessing staff competence. 4. Operational Workflow & Governance Coordinate patient workflow to optimize room and mobile unit usage, minimizing diagnostic turnaround times. Input clinical data accurately into the Radiology Information System (RIS) and Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS). Lead and participate in quality assurance (QA) testing, clinical audits, equipment fault reporting, and continuous professional development (CPD) in line with HCPC standards. 5. Service Flexibility & Communication Foster professional working relationships across multidisciplinary teams, hospital departments, primary care teams, and external agencies. Participate fully in the 24/7 operational rota, working out-of-hours shifts (evenings, weekends, and occasional nights) to support emergency, theatre, and acute clinical demand.
