We're looking for a General Maintenance Operative to support the delivery of safe, compliant, and high‑quality maintenance services at HMP Millsike, a modern custodial facility focused on rehabilitation, restoration, and positive outcomes.Mitie Care & Custody is driven by a bold vision to create environments that empower individuals, promote safety and respect, and support meaningful rehabilitation within a forward‑thinking custodial setting.

Role Responsibilities:

Deliver planned and reactive maintenance across prison fabric and building services assets.Complete PPM and helpdesk tasks in line with contract requirements and SHE standards.Ensure full compliance with health & safety, permit‑to‑work, statutory, and site‑specific regulations.Liaise with engineers and subcontractors, maintaining a strong understanding of site systems and services.Accurately complete all maintenance documentation and support 24/7 site operations via shift rota and call‑out.

Required Qualifications: applicants must meet the below defined requirements for the role.

-A recognised Apprenticeship or equivalent qualification in building services or multi‑skilled maintenance (e.g. NVQ Level 3, C&G/BTEC, HVAC, Gas, F‑Gas, 18th Edition).

-Proven experience providing general maintenance services within a large, complex environment.

-Practical knowledge across building services disciplines including heating, ventilation, electrical distribution, and public health systems.

-Basic to intermediate IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

-A proactive, flexible team player with strong communication skills, high integrity, and a “can‑do” attitude.

Additional Requirements (Security & Vetting):

Right to Work in the UK with valid, in‑date documentation.Continuous UK residency for the past 3 years, with limited overseas travel.Successful completion of Enhanced DBS, 5‑year referencing, and CTC vetting.Applicants must not be currently bankrupt.
