Summary

We currently have an opportunity for 1 WTE Assistant Psychologist to work across ourBrent acute mental health wards and the home treatment team.The post is based at the Park Royal Centre for Mental Health.

The position will suit an individual who is self-motivated, with excellent literacy and data skills. You will need to be highly motivated and enjoy working in a fast paced environment.

Applicants will be expected to hold a BPS approved degree in Psychology (upper second or first class) and have experience of working in a mental health setting. It would be advantageous to have experience of working within acute settings.

The role involves supporting the acute Clinical Psychologists and the multidisciplinary teams in their work and delivering psychologically informed interventions, with a focus on short term, intensive work. Interventions will involve both individual and group work and some work will be community based. The role will also involve supporting the implementation of trauma-informed care within the acute services. There will be opportunities for service related research and audit, as well as the chance to undertake some teaching and training for non-psychologist colleagues.

The post holders will receive weekly supervision with a qualified psychologist. There are close links with the Brent Community Services and other Psychologists in Brent and across CNWL. There are good opportunities for CPD.

1.    To undertake, under the direct supervision of a qualified professional psychologist, protocol based psychological assessments of clients applying psychological, including neuro-psychological,tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the client’s care.

2.    To assist in the formulation and delivery of routine care plans involving the psychological treatment and/or management of a client’s problems, under the direct supervision of a qualified professional psychologist, in both community and in-patient/residential settings.

3.    To assist, under the direct supervision of a qualified professional psychologist, in the coordination and running of therapeutic groups.

4.    To work with other staff to assess inpatients, day patients or residents and review their care in preparation for multi-disciplinary reviews.

5.    To assist, under the direct supervision of a qualified professional psychologist, in the development of a psychologically based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all clients of the service, across all settings where care takes place.

6.    To attend and contribute to appropriate multi-disciplinary meetings.

7.    To support the delivery of trauma-informed care within the acute services.
