Summary
The purpose of this post is to provide comprehensive support. The assistant will be expected to perform a variety of clerical/research duties within a research environment and in such a way as to make a direct and positive contribution to the organisation of the work.
1. Assist Research Nurse with patient’s study visits and clinical trial procedures. This will include venepuncture, vital signs, placement of ECG monitoring equipment and ECG recording (after appropriate training)
2. Collection, processing (including centrifugation, freezing, handling of dry ice) and shipping of biological specimens according to protocol requirements.
3. Operate computer systems to enter and retrieve data (Trust electronic patient records & Microsoft Exceletc)
4. Maintain screening logs for clinicaltrials.
5. Collection of data using a variety of methods (face to face contacts; telephone; emailetc) – Update CRFs database.
6. Identification of suitable patients for clinical trials (Screening medical records / wards / clinics) after appropriate training.
7. Deal with telephone enquiries from patients, relatives, medical staff and clinical trial personnel, recording messages whereappropriate.
8. Follow local protocols relating to research data security procedures and safe distribution of data for researchpurposes.
9. General clerical duties including filing, photocopying andcorrespondence.
10. To comply with ICHGCP.

1. Liaise with all other departments within the hospital, i.e. wardsmedical outpatient departments; medical records, etc. with regard to all aspects of patient care, e.g. Appointments, investigationsetc.
2. Assist Research Nurse with patient’s study visits and clinical trial procedures. This will include venepuncture, vital signs, placement of ECG monitoring equipment and ECG recording (after appropriate training)
3. Collection, processing (including centrifugation, freezing, handling of dry ice) and shipping of biological specimens according to protocol requirements.
4. Co-ordinating courier collections for blood samples and documents
5. Operate computer systems to enter and retrieve data (Trust electronic patient records & Microsoft Exceletc)
6. Maintain screening logs for clinicaltrials.
7. Collection of data using a variety of methods (face to face contacts; telephone; emailetc) – Update CRFs database.
8. Identification of suitable patients for clinical trials (Screening medical records / wards / clinics) after appropriate training.
9. Deal with telephone enquiries from patients, relatives, medical staff and clinical trial personnel, recording messages whereappropriate.
10. Retrieval of medical records, investigation reports,etc.
11. Follow local protocols relating to research data security procedures and safe distribution of data for researchpurposes.
12. General clerical duties including filing, photocopying andcorrespondence.
13. Observe strict confidentiality in accordance with the Data Protection Act and CaldicottPrinciples.
14. Attend training courses as and whenrequire
15. To comply with ICHGCP.
16. Promote, monitor and comply with all aspects of Health andSafety.
17. Undertake any other duties deemed relevant to the post andgrade
