Our Organisation

This role is advertised by ELLG Professional Services. Part of East Lancashire Learning Group, ELLG Professional Services provides expert business support services to the wider Group.

Part of East Lancashire Learning Group, Nelson and Colne College has a national reputation for educational success and is seen within the Further Education sector as a beacon of excellence for teaching and learning. The Exciting Role

Are you someone who enjoys working with people, stays calm under pressure and wants to make a real difference?

We're looking for a Security Officer to join our Security Team, helping to provide a safe, secure and welcoming environment for students, staff and visitors across our College Group.

We're looking for the right person, not just the right CV. You don't need to have worked in a college before. We can teach you our systems, processes and procedures. What we're looking for is someone with the right attitude, who is eager to learn and wants to develop.

You'll be approachable, professional and confident communicating with people from all backgrounds. You'll be able to remain calm under pressure, use your initiative and make sound decisions when responding to incidents. You'll also be comfortable challenging inappropriate behaviour professionally when required.

Experience in security is an advantage, but we'd also welcome applications from people with backgrounds in customer service, hospitality, retail, the emergency services, the armed forces, care or other public-facing roles where communication, professionalism and dealing with people are key.

What You Will Be Doing:

No two days are the same. One day you could be responding to an incident, monitoring our CCTV systems or managing access to the campus, and the next you could be supporting a fire evacuation, assisting with an investigation or helping deliver a College event.

Our Security Team plays an important role in supporting the day-to-day operation and operational resilience of the College. You'll work closely with colleagues across the organisation and become part of a team that is trusted to respond professionally when it matters most.

What We Are Looking For:

  • A professional and approachable manner.
  • Excellent communication and people skills.
  • The ability to remain calm under pressure and make sound decisions.
  • A willingness to learn and develop.
  • A proactive approach and the confidence to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • A commitment to providing excellent customer service.

What We Offer in Return:

  • Access to a workplace pension scheme – with generous employer contributions
  • Generous annual leave allowance including a two-week closure over the Christmas period
  • Enhanced occupational sick pay scheme and access to family friendly policies and benefits
  • A range of health and wellbeing benefits and support
  • Staff recognition scheme, including long service awards
  • Free on-site parking on all College sites
