Estimator

£45,000 - £55,000 DOE

Ramsgate

We are ambitious

That’s why we need people like you to help us

We’re continuing to grow our water and wastewater business as we move through AMP8, and we’re looking for an experienced Estimator to join our pre-construction team in Fareham.

This is a great opportunity for an Estimator with a background in civil engineering, utilities or infrastructure to work on a range of projects across the water sector, including water and wastewater networks, pumping stations, reservoirs, pipelines and treatment assets.

You’ll be responsible for developing accurate and competitive estimates for projects typically valued up to £20 million, working as part of the wider pre-construction team to help develop successful tender submissions across a range of water sector frameworks.

Here are some of the activities you’ll be involved in…

• Preparing detailed estimates from drawings, specifications and tender documentation.

• Carrying out detailed quantity take-offs and developing first-principles rates.

• Obtaining, reviewing and evaluating supplier and subcontractor quotations.

• Identifying risks, opportunities and value engineering solutions to support competitive tenders.

• Supporting tender submissions, including preparing assumptions, clarifications and exclusions.

• Working closely with the wider pre-construction, engineering, operational and commercial teams throughout the tender process.

• Supporting the handover of successful tenders to the delivery teams following contract award.

• Maintaining estimating databases, cost information and project benchmarks to support future tenders.

• Managing multiple tenders and deadlines, ensuring estimates are accurate, commercially sound and submitted on time.

We’d love to hear from you if…

You have previous estimating experience within civil engineering, utilities, infrastructure or a similar construction environment, with a good understanding of construction methodologies, measurement and first-principles estimating.

Experience within the water and wastewater sector would be particularly beneficial, although we’re open to candidates from other relevant infrastructure backgrounds. You’ll be confident interpreting engineering drawings and specifications, assessing supply chain quotations and identifying commercial risks and opportunities.

You’ll have strong numerical and analytical skills, good commercial awareness and an organised approach to managing multiple deadlines. Experience of working with NEC3 or NEC4 contracts would be advantageous.

A HNC, HND or degree in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or a related discipline would be beneficial, alongside good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and estimating systems.

Most importantly, you’ll be proactive, detail-focused and collaborative, with the confidence to work closely with colleagues across pre-construction, engineering, operations and commercial teams to develop robust and competitive tenders.
