Job Description:
A Direct Payments client in Pembrokeshire is looking to employ a Personal Assistant to help her remain independent within her community. To support her to places of interest, to access exciting activities and to improve her confidence and abilities. As part of this role, you will be required to complete household tasks, take this lady's food shopping and support her to attend any private appointments she may have. This role requires lifting and handling as this lady is a wheelchair user. This post is funded through the Direct Payments scheme, which aims to enable the client to manage their support and meet their care needs independently. The successful applicant should be friendly and supportive and be able to work flexibly to meet the care needs of the client. They should be able to support the client to make their own decisions around their care needs and encourage them to maintain their independence.
The main duties to be included in this role are:
• Supporting the employer with encouragement to gain independence
• To take to places of interest.
• To take food shopping and to any appointments.
• To help with household tasks.
• Lifting and handling a wheelchair.
• Enabling the employer to interact socially in their community
• Providing support to the employer whilst shopping and attending activities of interest
• Supporting the employer to develop independent living skills
• To provide companionship in the employer’s home, including engaging in conversation with the employer and providing them with social interaction
• Encouraging the employer to attend appointments
• Always ensure the employer’s safety during your working hours
• To carry out any other reasonable tasks that are requested by the employer during your working hours
• Must have a car for this position.
• Be mindful of safeguarding issues, and feedback on any concerns to the relevant authority
• Be responsible for contacting the GP, Social Worker or Local Authority should the employer need medical assistance
