Summary
Implement and utilise a range of methods/assays/techniques in support of all activities associated with the project aimed to ensure project targets are met. Take responsibility for the provision of reagents and consumables required for the project and documented storage of materials generated. Work with other team members to identify, evaluate, and adapt, new technologies where appropriate and to ensure that the project operates to a high scientific standard. Provide reports through analysis of data using software and databases as necessary, to meet project targets & contribute to the preparation of presentations and publications. To perform any other duties required by the Line manager and the Head of CDEP, commensurate with grade. Undertake all assigned work in accordance with the UKHSAs Risk Management Systems, policies, and procedures. To undertake work in accordance with UKHSAs Health and Safety policies and procedures and to work within any Quality Systems that are applicable to the site. To fulfil the requirements of UKHSA Behaviours Maintain health and safety competence in line with UKHSA policy and guidance. To achieve and maintain own and teams health and safety competence set out in UKHSA Policies. Essential criteria Bsc qualification (or equivalent level qualification) in a microbiology field Laboratory experience of evaluating antimicrobials in bacterial cultures, preferably gram negatives Performing bacterial assays in microtitre plates, preferably 384-well plates. Ability to analyse large data sets, with computer software Clear communicator with excellent writing, report writing and presentation skills; capable of constructing and delivering clear ideas and concepts concisely and accurately to the team Independent thinker with demonstrated good judgement, problem-solving and analytical skills Ability to engender trust and confidence and demonstrate integrity in the provision of data Good team player Desirable criteria Experience of external collaboration (including international collaboration) Experience of writing manuscripts Experience of working in a regulated environment with quality systems and knowledge of ISO9001 quality standards or equivalent Knowledge of writing scripts for the analysis of large data sets Selection Process Details This vacancy is using Success Profiles and will assess your Behaviours, Strengths, Experience and Technical skills. Location This role is being offered as lab based at our Scientific Campus in Porton (Salisbury). Please note hybrid working is not available for this role. Security Clearance Level Requirement Successful candidates must pass a basic disclosure and barring security check before they can be appointed. Successful candidates must meet the security requirements before they can be appointed. The level of security needed is Counter-Terrorist Check. Based at our scientific campus, you will be required to have a Counter Terrorism Check security vetting check as a minimum. For meaningful National Security Vetting checks to be carried out individuals need to have lived in the UK for a sufficient period of time. You should normally have been resident in the United Kingdom for the last 3 years as the role requires Counter Terrorism Check (CTC) clearance. In exceptional circumstances UK residency less than the outlined periods may not necessarily bar you from gaining national security vetting and applicants should contact the Vacancy Holder/Recruiting Manager listed in the advert for further advice. Salary Information If you are successful at interview, and are moving from another government department, NHS, or Local Authority, the relevant starting salary principles for level transfers or promotions will apply. Otherwise, roles are offered at the pay scale minimum for the grade, but in exceptional circumstances there may be flexibility if you are able to demonstrate you are already in receipt of an existing, higher salary. Pay increases are through the relevant annual pay award for the role and terms.
