Summary

HMPPS Band 11

We are seeking exceptional senior leaders to join our organisation at a pivotal time of transformation. These influential roles will play a key part in delivering strategic alignment projects, providing visible leadership through change, and shaping the future direction of the organisation. Working across complex stakeholder environments, successful candidates will build and maintain strong partnerships, drive operational improvement, and ensure the delivery of high-quality outcomes that support our long-term ambitions. This is a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact, leading people, performance, and change at the highest level.

The Corruption, Crime and Policing Unit (CCPU) is part of the National Security Group (NSG) within the Directorate of Security and comprises of over 300 staff. CCPU leads the HMPPS response to tackling ongoing crime and corruption that threatens our communities and our prison establishments. CCPU coordinates and executes a whole system, multi-agency response to reduce the significant harm caused by criminal activity and corruption taking place in our prison and probation environments.

CCPU works directly with law enforcement agencies, criminal justice partners, and other stakeholders to identify and disrupt serious and organised criminals, those that seek to corrupt our people and partners and those that continue criminality whilst under our supervision in prisons or on probation.

CCPU comprises of a Crime Operational team, who play a critical role in identifying, disrupting, advising and supporting the management of criminal activity within prisons and probation, through targeted interventions, strategic coordination, and multi-agency collaboration to uphold safety, integrity, and justice; and the Counter Corruption Unit whose ambition is to create an organisation that is resilient to the threat of corruption, can protect its hard-working staff, prevent corruption by providing staff with the tools to protect themselves and target those engaging in corrupt behaviour through the 4P strategic approach.

As Head of CCPU the post holder will lead the Unit and its staff who have a combined mix of operational and policy experience from a wide range of settings. They have unique access to offenders and deep operational knowledge which means they can make the most of any disruption opportunities. This is a significant leadership post which is growing in influence within HMPPS, MOJ and the wider law enforcement community.

This is a nationally based role with the standard HMPPS expectation around hybrid working and a minimum 60% office attendance. There will be frequent travel to London, occasional national travel and possible international travel.

Although the Head of Intelligence, Head of Corruption, Crime and Policing Unit, and Head of Change – NSG roles are being advertised as three separate campaigns, they all sit within the National Security Group.

If you would like to be considered for more than one of these roles, please apply for each vacancy that interests you. We will conduct a joint sift across the campaigns, and candidates applying for multiple roles will only need to attend one interview.

We will share further details and guidance on the process in due course.

The presentation question will be sent to candidates once they have been invited to interview.

Developed Vetting standards required with a further STRAP accreditation.
