Summary
The Band 6 Haematology Nurse is a specialist nursing role that supports patients with haematological disorders and blood cancers throughout their treatment pathway. The post holder works closely with the Haematology Nurse Specialist and multidisciplinary team to ensure patients have timely access to specialist care, investigations, treatment, education and support. The role involves: Providing specialist nursing advice and support to patients, families and carers. Facilitating rapid access to haematology and cancer services in line with NICE guidance and cancer pathway targets. Assessing patients and coordinating appropriate investigations, treatment and follow-up care. Supporting consultant-led clinics, nurse-led telephone clinics, ward patients and day unit activity. Acting as a key worker and point of contact for patients throughout their cancer journey. Supporting the delivery of safe, evidence-based care and contributing to service development. Participating in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, audit, research and quality improvement initiatives. Educating and supporting nursing and multidisciplinary colleagues to improve knowledge and standards of haematology care. Ensuring continuity of service and providing support in the absence of the Haematology Nurse Specialist.
