About the Role
We are currently recruiting for Semi-Skilled HGV Technicians to join a well-established commercial vehicle workshop.
The role is ideal for someone with a genuine interest in HGV maintenance who is looking to develop their technical skills and practical experience within a commercial vehicle environment.
Working under the guidance of experienced technicians and workshop supervisors, you will support the servicing, maintenance, inspection and repair of HGVs, trailers and associated equipment while working towards becoming a fully qualified HGV Technician.
Key Responsibilities
Vehicle Inspection & Maintenance
- Assist with routine servicing, inspections and maintenance of HGVs and trailers.
- Carry out basic repairs and component replacements under supervision.
- Support preventative maintenance activities to maximise vehicle reliability.
- Develop knowledge of DVSA requirements and vehicle roadworthiness standards.
- Assist with preparing vehicles and trailers for MOT and annual testing.
Diagnostics & Repairs
- Support experienced technicians with fault-finding and diagnostic activities.
- Assist with repairs to mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Learn to use workshop diagnostic equipment and specialist tools.
- Carry out post-repair checks to ensure work has been completed correctly.
Reconditioning, Fabrication & Workshop Duties
- Assist with vehicle and trailer refurbishment and reconditioning projects.
- Support fabrication and welding activities where trained and authorised.
- Maintain workshop tools, equipment and work areas.
- Support workshop housekeeping and cleanliness standards.
Compliance & Administration
- Accurately complete job cards, inspection sheets and maintenance records as instructed.
- Follow company procedures and manufacturer guidelines.
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with Health & Safety requirements.
- Report defects, safety concerns and maintenance issues to the Workshop Foreman.
Training & Development
- Participate fully in training and development activities.
- Work towards relevant qualifications, including Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair.
- Develop knowledge of vehicle systems, workshop procedures and diagnostic techniques.
- Seek feedback and coaching from experienced technicians and the Workshop Foreman.
- Maintain a proactive approach to learning and continuous improvement.
Teamwork & Customer Service
- Work effectively with technicians, foremen and other workshop colleagues.
- Demonstrate a positive and professional attitude at all times.
- Support the delivery of high-quality workmanship and customer service.
- Represent the business professionally when interacting with customers and suppliers.
