About the Role
We are currently recruiting for a Commercial Vehicle Bodyshop Technician to join a well-established commercial vehicle business at a new site in Skelmersdale.
The role involves inspecting, repairing and refurbishing commercial vehicles and trailers to high standards of safety, quality and workmanship. You will carry out body repairs, fabrication, welding, panel replacement and vehicle refinishing activities, ensuring all work is completed efficiently and in line with company procedures and Health & Safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Vehicle Inspection & Assessment
- Inspect damaged vehicles and trailers to determine repair requirements.
- Identify whether components should be repaired or replaced.
- Report additional defects identified during the repair process.
- Accurately record repair work undertaken and parts required.
Body Repair & Fabrication
- Repair damaged vehicle bodies, panels and structural components.
- Remove and replace damaged bodywork and associated vehicle components.
- Carry out panel beating, straightening and alignment activities.
- Fabricate replacement sections and panels where required.
- Undertake welding and fabrication work using approved methods and equipment.
Preparation & Finishing
- Prepare repaired surfaces for refinishing through sanding, grinding, filling and priming.
- Assist with painting and refinishing activities when required.
- Ensure completed repairs achieve the required cosmetic and quality standards.
Quality & Compliance
- Conduct final quality inspections on completed repairs.
- Ensure all work meets company, customer and regulatory requirements.
- Adhere to all workshop Health & Safety procedures, including the correct use of PPE.
- Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment.
- Ensure workshop tools and equipment are used safely and maintained appropriately.
Teamwork & Communication
- Work collaboratively with workshop colleagues and management to meet operational requirements.
- Communicate effectively regarding repair progress, parts requirements and timescales.
- Contribute to a positive and professional workshop culture.
What We're Looking For
Essential
- Previous experience within a commercial vehicle, HGV, trailer or vehicle body repair environment.
- Experience carrying out body repairs, panel replacement and fabrication work.
- Competent in MIG welding and the use of workshop equipment and power tools.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Good problem-solving skills and ability to manage workloads effectively.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Understanding of safe working practices within a workshop environment.
