Summary
Nursery Room Leader (Level 3) – Baby Room or Toddler Room
Location: Sunrise Community Nursery, SE4 2LW (Brockley Way)
Hours: 38 hours per week, Monday to Friday (4‑day work week)
Salary: £28,652 - £31,000

About Sunrise Community Nursery
Sunrise Community Nursery is a community‑run, charitable early years setting for children aged 3 months to 5 years. We are a large, vibrant nursery supporting around 110 children, with a strong commitment to inclusion, diversity, and high‑quality early education. Our team is dedicated to giving every child the best possible start in life through nurturing relationships, purposeful learning environments, and a child‑centred approach.
We are currently recruiting a Level 3 Qualified Room Leader for either our Baby Room or 2–5 Year Old Room, depending on experience.
Key Responsibilities (Baby Room Leader)
The Baby Room Leader will:
Provide warm, responsive care that supports secure attachments and early development.
Plan and deliver age‑appropriate sensory, exploratory and physical activities.
Monitor and track developmental milestones using EYFS and Birth to 5 Matters.
Lead and coach staff to ensure routines (feeding, sleep, nappy changing) are safe, consistent and nurturing.
Create a calm, predictable environment that supports emotional security.
Build strong relationships with families, supporting transitions into nursery.
Ensure all safeguarding, health and safety and statutory requirements are met.
Key Responsibilities (2–5 Room Leader)
The 2–5 Room Leader will:
Plan and deliver stimulating learning experiences that support school readiness.
Track children’s progress through observations, settling‑in reports and summative assessments.
Lead and coach staff to deliver high‑quality teaching and purposeful play.
Organise daily routines and deployment to maximise learning outcomes.
Promote independence, curiosity and the Characteristics of Effective Learning.
Ensure the room environment is well‑resourced, inclusive and reflective of children’s interests.
Maintain high standards of practice in line with EYFS and Birth to 5 Matters.
General Leadership Responsibilities
Manage and motivate your team effectively.
Set clear goals and monitor progress against targets.
Maintain high standards of safeguarding, health and safety and compliance.
Ensure policies, procedures and best practice are consistently followed.
Monitor the quality of provision and drive continuous improvement.
