Location: Plymouth, London, Portsmouth/Catterick or Cambridge & Wyton
Working Arrangements: 1 day per week at base site for admin, rest of time will be out on site
Preference are for candidates with Active SC clearance

Our client is seeking an experienced Clerk of Works to join a busy property and construction environment, providing professional site inspection, quality assurance and compliance oversight across a range of construction and building projects.
The successful candidate will have a strong construction background and be confident inspecting works on site, identifying defects and ensuring that projects are delivered in accordance with approved specifications, drawings, regulations and contractual requirements.

What We Are Looking For
The ideal candidate will be a practical and experienced construction professional with a strong eye for detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work. They will be comfortable working on active construction sites, inspecting works, challenging contractors where standards are not met and ensuring defects are identified and resolved.
Strong communication skills are essential, as the Clerk of Works will work closely with contractors, project teams and other stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered safely, compliantly, on time and to the required standard.

Key Responsibilities
Undertake regular site inspections to monitor the quality, progress and compliance of construction works.
Ensure works are being delivered in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, schedules and contractual requirements.
Identify defective, incomplete or non-compliant works and ensure appropriate remedial action is taken.
Undertake detailed snagging inspections, maintaining accurate records and monitoring the resolution of outstanding issues.
Monitor construction standards and workmanship throughout the project lifecycle.
Review works against relevant building regulations, health and safety requirements and industry standards.
Raise and document quality issues, defects and areas of non-compliance.
Work closely with contractors, site managers, project managers, consultants and other stakeholders to resolve issues effectively.
Contribute to project meetings, progress reviews and quality assurance activities.
Maintain accurate site inspection reports, photographs, records and project documentation.
Provide professional advice and guidance on construction quality and compliance.
Support the successful handover and completion of projects, ensuring outstanding defects and snagging items are appropriately addressed.
Adapt to changing priorities and requirements across multiple projects and workstreams.
Use IT systems and Microsoft Office applications to maintain records and produce reports.
Candidate Requirements:
1. Strong construction background
Demonstrable experience in construction, site inspection, building control or a closely related discipline, with the ability to assess workmanship and construction quality effectively.
2. Knowledge of regulations and compliance
Good working knowledge of building regulations, health and safety requirements and construction contract compliance, with the ability to identify and address non-compliant works.
3. Quality control and snagging experience
Proven experience undertaking quality inspections, identifying defects and snagging requirements, and ensuring that completed works meet the required specification and standard.
Essential Requirements
Strong background in construction, site inspection or building control.
Good knowledge of building regulations, health and safety and contract compliance.
Proven experience in quality control, snagging and ensuring construction works meet specification.
Construction experience is essential.
HNC/HND in Construction Management, Building Surveying, Civil Engineering or a related discipline, or qualified by experience, with candidates possessing a lower-level qualification potentially considered where they have 10+ years' relevant construction experience.
Full UK Driving Licence.
Good IT skills, including practical experience using Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to inspections and record keeping.
Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to challenge poor workmanship or non-compliance when required.
Ability to work effectively with contractors and a range of professional and operational stakeholders.
Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
Adaptable and able to respond positively to changing requirements and priorities.
Desirable
Professional membership or affiliation with an appropriate construction body, for example ICWCI (Institute of Clerks of Works and Construction Inspectorate) or CIOB (Chartered Institute of Building). Candidates currently working towards professional membership will also be considered.
Previous experience within public sector or government-related construction environments would be advantageous.
Experience working within social housing or housing-related construction projects.
Experience of working on refurbishment, maintenance, new-build or major capital works projects.
Knowledge of modern construction methods, materials and industry best practice.
