Summary

Lecturer – Sound and Audio Engineering

Full time Permanent

1 FTE 35 hours per week

£43,402 - £52,247 per annum

UHI Perth is a leading provider of further and higher education and a key partner in the University of the Highlands and Islands.

Our Audio, Music and Theatre Industries department has more than 40 years’ experience delivering industry-focused creative education. Our team supports undergraduate students across Audio Engineering, Popular Music, Music Business, Musical Theatre and Technical Theatre, alongside NQ programmes in Music, Sound Production and Acting and Theatre Performance.

We are looking for an experienced live audio engineer to join our team and bring current professional practice directly into the classroom and our extensive programme of live events.

You will hold an undergraduate degree or equivalent professional qualification and have strong practical expertise in:

• Live Event Audio – mixing, recording, system management, networking and loudspeaker configuration, including experience with networked audio using Dante, AES50 or SLink protocols.

• Applied Audio Theory – acoustics, event and environmental monitoring using SMAART, and prediction software such as ArrayCalc.

You will teach across audio provision from SCQF Levels 5–10, with a particular focus on Live Audio within our BSc Audio Engineering degree. The programme has achieved 100% student satisfaction in the NSS for six consecutive years, reflecting our emphasis on industry expertise, practical learning and student success.

You will work with an extensive range of professional facilities and equipment, including:

• Three Eastlake recording studios with Neotek, SSL and MTA consoles

• Dolby Atmos room and 5.1 studio

• 147-seat theatre and set-construction workshop

• Three computer music suites running Pro Tools, Logic and Ableton

• Rehearsal and performance facilities

• Dante-enabled Midas, Behringer X32 and Allen & Heath consoles

• Professional loudspeaker, monitoring and SMAART systems

Collaboration is central to our curriculum. You will work alongside colleagues and students across music, theatre and technical disciplines on live gigs, theatre productions and external events, providing students with opportunities to develop their skills in authentic professional environments. Recent activity has included productions of Dear Evan Hansen, The Rocky Horror Show and Little Shop of Horrors, regular live events in Perth and Dundee, industry placements and student awards at regional and national level.

We are looking for someone who combines strong technical expertise with excellent communication, organisation and teamwork, and who brings a proactive approach to health and safety, equipment maintenance and developing students’ professional practice.

If you are an experienced live audio professional who wants to share your industry expertise, work with emerging talent and help shape the next generation of audio engineers, we would like to hear from you.

Sponsorship will not be available for this role.
