Summary
Luma Education Recruitment is working with a welcoming education setting in Wigston, Leicester, Leicestershire, that is seeking a caring and motivated Pastoral Mentor / Teaching Assistant to join its support team.
This opportunity would suit someone who enjoys working with children and young people and is passionate about helping pupils develop their confidence, emotional wellbeing, independence and engagement with education.
You will work closely with teachers and pastoral colleagues, providing a combination of learning and pastoral support throughout the school day. The role is focused on building positive relationships and helping pupils feel settled, supported and ready to learn.
The Role
Your responsibilities will include:
Providing 1:1 and small-group learning and pastoral support
Helping pupils who may need additional encouragement or guidance
Supporting children with their social and emotional development
Encouraging positive engagement with lessons and school activities
Building strong, positive relationships with pupils
Helping young people develop confidence, resilience and independence
Supporting pupils to overcome barriers that may affect their learning
Working alongside teachers and pastoral staff to understand individual needs
Supporting pupils across different parts of the school day, including lessons and break times
Encouraging positive attitudes towards education and personal development
Contributing to a calm, safe and welcoming learning environment
Celebrating pupil progress and encouraging them to achieve their potential
What We're Looking For
We are keen to hear from candidates who:
Have experience working with children or young people
Are passionate about supporting pupils to reach their potential
Have a patient, approachable and encouraging manner
Can build positive relationships with young people
Are confident providing both practical and emotional support
Communicate well with pupils and colleagues
Are reliable, adaptable and committed
Have experience in education, care, youth work, SEN or a similar environment – although this is not essential
Are a car driver, which would be an advantage
The right attitude and ability to connect with pupils are just as important as previous experience.
