Different minds, endless possibilities

Are you passionate about making a difference to the lives of autistic children and young people?

The Lady Byron School is looking for an enthusiastic, compassionate and committed Practitioner to join our specialist team.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to play an active role in pupils' education, wellbeing and personal development. Our Practitioners do much more than provide classroom support. You will help plan and deliver learning, lead interventions and small-group activities, support pupils to overcome barriers to learning and help them develop greater confidence and independence.

Our school values – Belonging, Kindness and Confidence – underpin everything we do.

About the Role

Working alongside teachers, pathway leads and our wider specialist team, you will:

• Support autistic pupils to engage with learning and make progress.

• Plan, deliver and assess targeted learning activities and interventions.

• Lead small-group and, where appropriate, whole-class learning activities.

• Provide individualised academic, pastoral and emotional support.

• Support pupils with communication, emotional regulation and behaviour.

• Help pupils develop independence, resilience, confidence and positive relationships.

• Contribute to pupils' Person Centred Education Plans (PCEPs).

• Adapt resources and approaches to meet individual learning and sensory needs.

• Monitor, record and contribute to the assessment of pupil progress.

• Support classroom organisation and preparation of high-quality learning resources.

• Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents/carers and external professionals.

• Support educational visits, enrichment activities and wider school experiences.

• Contribute to the continued development of our specialist autism provision.

Who Are We Looking For?

We are looking for someone who is positive, patient and genuinely motivated by helping young people succeed.

You will be someone who:

• Builds warm, professional and trusting relationships with pupils.

• Understands that autistic pupils may communicate, learn and experience the world differently.

• Can remain calm, consistent and supportive when pupils are anxious or dysregulated.

• Has high expectations while recognising individual needs and starting points.

• Is confident supporting individuals, small groups and classroom learning.

• Works effectively as part of a team.

• Is flexible, proactive and willing to learn.

• Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
