About the Employer

Jake is 19 years old and has diagnoses of ADHD, Autism and a mild learning disability. Jake experiences low confidence when accessing the community independently and can become anxious about the possibility of something going wrong while he is out alone. His anxiety can also cause him to feel that he needs to use the bathroom frequently, which can make going out and travelling independently more difficult. Jake would benefit from support from a Personal Assistant to help him build confidence in the community, access activities and appointments safely, plan and complete journeys, and gradually develop his independence. The PA should provide reassurance when Jake becomes anxious while encouraging him to make his own choices and complete tasks for himself wherever possible. Support should be calm, patient and consistent, with clear communication and enough time for Jake to process information and feel comfortable in unfamiliar situations.
