Would you like to play a key role on a major defence engineering programme supporting the delivery of critical engineering projects?

The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to support a major defence engineering programme. Joining a globally recognised engineering and technology partner, you will be responsible for reviewing, correcting and releasing engineering drawings while ensuring compliance with BS8888 standards, industry regulations and engineering best practices.

Your duties and responsibilities will be

- Review and approve engineering drawings in accordance with BS8888 and company design standards.

- Identify, assess and resolve drawing non-conformances, redline comments and documentation issues.

- Amend and update existing engineering drawings and associated technical documentation.

- Support design documentation and configuration control activities throughout the project lifecycle.

- Conduct tolerance stack-up analysis to ensure manufacturability and design integrity.

- Apply and review Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) principles.

- Liaise with suppliers and internal stakeholders to resolve technical drawing queries.

- Support engineering change processes and drawing release activities.

- Ensure technical documentation complies with industry standards, regulatory requirements and engineering best practice.

- Manage supplier technical requests and documentation reviews.

- Support simulation activities and engineering change assessments.

- Drive continuous improvement initiatives relating to drawing quality and documentation compliance.

You will have the following qualifications & experience:

- Mechanical Engineering HNC or equivalent engineering qualification.

- Proven experience as a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer or Principal Mechanical Engineer.

- Extensive experience reviewing, approving and correcting engineering drawings.

- Expert knowledge of BS8888 standards.

- Strong practical application of GD&T principles.

- Experience carrying out tolerance stack-up analysis.

- Ability to interpret, amend and correct complex engineering drawings and associated documentation.

- Experience supporting engineering projects within highly regulated industries such as Defence, Aerospace, Marine or Advanced Manufacturing.

- Knowledge of 3D CAD packages such as SolidWorks or equivalent.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

- Advanced English communication skills.

- Strong stakeholder engagement and technical communication abilities.

- Eligibility to obtain SC Security Clearance.

It’s great if you also have the following

- Previous experience working on defence programmes.

- Knowledge of engineering configuration management processes.

- Experience managing supplier technical reviews and approvals.

- Experience supporting engineering simulations and engineering change management activities.

- A track record of driving drawing quality improvements and documentation compliance initiatives.

The setting for the role

- Hybrid working arrangement available.

- Minimum of 2 days per week onsite in Barnstaple.

- Candidates can begin work with BPSS clearance while SC clearance is being processed.
