The team has a strong vision to provide both excellent care and excellent training in an inclusive and supportive department. We strive to make the department a good place to work and to learn. We are a mixture of Consultants, some with microbiology CCT and some with GIM. We work closely with our microbiology and virology colleagues. LTHT has a positive approach to flexible working and we support a variety of different models in the infectious diseases team. We support the whole team to have a positive work-life balance. What you will bring to the role The right candidate will be an excellent clinician who is able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team both on the ward and in the out-patient setting. You will work alongside a team of resident doctors providing care in a "consultant of the week" model on the 18 bed infectious diseases ward. Other weeks will be spent supporting the Specialist registrar covering referrals, both regionally and locally. You will also provide oversight to the OPAT team and lead the weekly OPAT MDT. Other responsibilities will depend on experience and training, but could include ICU ward rounds, advising in the spinal infection MDT, providing cover for General Medical outliers or contributing to the regional virology service (depending on CCT). St. James' is a university hospital and we provide term-time teaching to undergraduates in 1st and 5th year. We also train resident doctors of all grades in the department and often have observers from other departments. Therefore, the right candidate will have a keen commitment to teaching and training at all levels, and be willing to contribute to the many educational activities both in the department and at regional level. The department actively participates in research, and we have a dedicated team supporting this work. All consultants are expected to support the research team in identification of patients and recruitment to appropriate trials.
