Summary

A vacant position has arisen within the department of 

Respiratory Medicine & Allergy at St. Bartholomew’s 

Hospital for a full time AA & ILD Lead Nurse. This post 

combines the delivery of clinical care within the 

respective Allergy and Severe Ashma services with 

leadership of the Clinical Nurse Specialist Team. The 

Allergy service is a Royal College of Physicians 

Improving Quality in Allergy Services (IQAS) 

accredited Centre and the combined Severe Asthma & 

Allergy services is a World Allergy Organisation 

(WAO)-designated Centre of Excellence for 2026

2029. The postholder should be highly specialised in 

Allergy and/or Asthma and will be expected to 

undertake 50% of their working time within both 

specialities.   The details will be outlined in a job plan 

agreed with the post holder on appointment. The post 

holder will be expected to undertake regular or at least 

one fixed Allergy Challenge session per week as part 

of their role. The remaining clinical aspect of the role 

will be tailored to their existing expertise. 

The post-holder would provide leadership and vision to 

develop the current nurse-led services, with the aim of 

future expansion in nurse-led clinics for specific groups 

of patients within Allergy and Severe Asthma & ILD 

allowing CNS-led care autonomously within the 

relevant multidisciplinary team(s).  In addition, they will 

be expected to provide leadership and day-to-day 

management in the following areas: 1) the Asthma & 

Allergy Day Case Unit, a high throughput location 

where the nurse-led biologics injections and hot clinics 

take place, as well as challenge testing, which is 

consultant-led  2) Clinic 1- where the nurse-led 

immunotherapy injection service takes place. 

They would work in partnership with the multi

professional team to build evidence- based pathways. 

Within this their role will include extending scope of 

nursing practice and developing an expert level of 

professional autonomy and accountability in the 

provision of such care. 

They would also provide leadership in clinical 

governance and monitoring the quality of 

nurse-led care, provide leadership and 

mentorship for the nursing team, as well as 

leadership in quality improvement projects. 

They will participate in Allergy Clinical 

Governance Meetings and Respiratory Audit 

afternoons.
