Do you want to be part of an energetic, innovative team and bring your skills to one of the biggest changes to the administration of the Civil Service in decades?
We’re looking for people who are flexible, intuitive and comfortable working in an environment with high levels of volume, speed and complexity.
An exciting role is available in the Synergy Shared Services Hub (Hub), a new organisation that will manage shared services on behalf of departments in the Synergy cluster: the Ministry of Justice, the Department for Work and Pensions, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, and the Home Office.
Your work will impact shared services arrangements and support almost a quarter of a million officials and public servants across the four departments and arm’s-length bodies that deliver some of the most vital public services in our country.
The success of the Hub is crucial, as Civil Servants rely on shared services to provide business-critical tools in human resources, finance, payroll and procurement. Shared services affect everything we do, from joining a department as a new starter, to the way we claim expenses, buy goods and services such as laptops and canteen provisions, and receive our pensions when we retire.
Most importantly, we’re looking for applications from people who can demonstrate a passion for our core ambition: delivering a once-in-a-generation transformed service.
Primarily, this role will involve developing and supporting reporting data solutions using Oracle Fusion Data Intelligence/Oracle AI Data Platform, Oracle Transactional Business Intelligence and other modern cloud technologies, helping to deliver secure, reliable and scalable reporting products across the Synergy Shared Services Hub.
You'll work across the full reporting development lifecycle, developing and maintaining reports, datasets, data pipelines and integrations that enable reporting and analytics services within the Hub. Working closely with stakeholders, you'll help to deliver trusted management information and insights to users across multiple government departments.
As part of the Hub Reporting Team, you'll contribute to the design, development and continuous improvement of reporting solutions, applying engineering best practices and supporting the delivery of reusable and scalable reporting products.
You'll be an active member of the wider data community, sharing knowledge, learning from colleagues and contributing to the continuous improvement of reporting services and ways of working. You'll keep up to date with developments in reporting, analytics and data technologies, helping the team to make effective use of new capabilities where appropriate.
You will be accountable for:
- Designing, implementing and maintaining tools and processes for the continuous integration, delivery and deployment of business services. Collaborating with others, where necessary, to review and agree specifications, and to design, code, test and document programs or scripts.
- Working with business stakeholders across local analytical, risk and operational teams, understanding their needs and, with support, translating these into high-quality pipeline and/or data development solutions.
- Leading the development of Business Intelligence (BI) and/or Management Information (MI) reporting, maximising user value while ensuring continuous improvement and maintenance activities are kept up to date and that tools are appropriately assured. Leading requirements gathering to underpin the development of Business Intelligence and Management Information reporting tools.
- Using strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail to identify, investigate and resolve data and other technical issues.
- Applying and promoting a variety of validation and testing methods, as well as engineering standards, across the team to ensure the quality of data from the beginning of its lifecycle.
- Supporting senior members of the team in delivering continuous service improvement. You will be willing to challenge established practices, using evidence to deliver an evolving and relevant engineering service within the team.
We care about our employees and can offer you an environment that is family-friendly, supportive and inclusive, within an organisation with real social purpose.
