Summary
micro1 is looking for skilled CAD and mechanical-design experts to contribute to an AI training project involving technical drawings, computational geometry, programmatic CAD and Python.
The work involves interpreting dimensioned engineering schematics and reproducing them as precise 3D solid models. A representative task might require constructing a mechanical component with complex curved geometry, implementing the model through Python, exporting it as a STEP file, and validating it against strict geometric and physical requirements.
This is not a general hardware-support or electronics role. It calls for strong CAD, spatial reasoning, geometry and technical problem-solving ability.
What you will work on:
- Interpret dimensions and geometric relationships from technical drawings
- Translate 2D schematics into accurate 3D mechanical models
- Decompose complex components into appropriate geometric features
- Model curved profiles, sweeps, lofts, fillets, chamfers and Boolean operations
- Use Python to generate or automate CAD geometry
- Export valid, watertight solid models in formats such as STEP
- Validate dimensions, topology, volume, surface area and inertia properties
- Diagnose subtle differences between expected and generated geometry
- Produce reproducible solutions that work in clean technical environments
Relevant tools may include build123d, CadQuery, FreeCAD, OpenCascade, Fusion 360, Onshape, SolidWorks or trimesh. No specific tool is mandatory if your experience is transferable.
Process: apply and complete the screening questions, then an AI interview of roughly 30 minutes, then a hiring manager review. We typically fill roles within 48 hours and expect successful candidates to start their first task within 24 to 48 hours of completing onboarding.
Fully remote, on a contractor basis.
