Summary
Masstemps is currently recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join a well-established and busy manufacturing company based near the
West Bromwich area.
THE JOB
. Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on production machinery and plant equipment.
. Diagnose and repair mechanical faults to minimise production downtime.
. Install, assemble, and commission new machinery and mechanical equipment.
. Replace and repair components including bearings, gearboxes, chains, belts, motors, pumps, and conveyors.
. Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical manuals, and maintenance documentation.
. Perform alignment, fitting, and adjustment of mechanical assemblies to required tolerances.
. Conduct routine inspections to identify wear, damage, or potential equipment failures.
. Work closely with production and engineering teams to ensure equipment operates efficiently.
. Ensure all maintenance work complies with health and safety regulations, company procedures, and risk assessments.
. Maintain accurate maintenance records using paper-based or computerised maintenance systems.
. Assist with continuous improvement initiatives to improve machine reliability and reduce downtime.
. Support contractors and external engineers during major maintenance or installation projects.
. Maintain high standards of housekeeping within workshops and production areas.
ABOUT YOU
• Proven experience working as a Mechanical Fitter, Maintenance Fitter, or Mechanical Maintenance Engineer within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical maintenance on production machinery and industrial plant equipment.
• Experience with fault finding, diagnosis, and repair of mechanical systems.
• Competent in replacing bearings, gearboxes, belts, chains, shafts, pumps, valves, and hydraulic/pneumatic components.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical schematics.
• Experience carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and breakdown repairs.
• Good understanding of health and safety procedures within an engineering environment.
• Experience using hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring equipment.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary maintenance team.
• Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to equipment reliability.
• Flexible approach to shift work and responding to production priorities.
HOURS OF WORK
Mon - Fri 6am - 14pm / Rotating / 14pm - 22pm
PAY RATE
£15.00 - £19.25ph depending on experience
