Summary
Mercor is looking for professionals with deep, hands-on experience in the administrative and operational work that keeps healthcare organisations running: the back office of a medical practice, hospital or health plan.
You will design realistic, complex scenarios from your own practice area, build the supporting records, then author and evaluate healthcare-operations tasks used to train AI agents. This is authoring and judgement work, not throughput. We are looking for people who can construct a complicated problem, not people who process volume.
Priority areas:
- Medical coding, including inpatient, outpatient and pro-fee coding, risk adjustment and HCC coding, and coding audit
- Prior authorisation and utilisation, including initiating, submitting and tracking authorisations through payer portals, and utilisation review and management
- Revenue cycle operations, including denials and appeals, A/R follow-up, payment and revenue integrity, underpayment recovery, coordination of benefits and secondary billing
Also in scope: claims and full-cycle medical billing; regulatory and compliance work, data privacy and healthcare internal audit; payer-side operations such as claims adjudication, appeals and grievances, benefit configuration, provider network and utilisation management; clinical documentation integrity, DRG validation and health information management; revenue integrity, charge master, managed care and reimbursement analysis; and practice, clinic or hospital administration.
Settings include physician groups and ambulatory practices, surgery centres, skilled nursing and long-term care, home health and hospice, behavioural health, dialysis, infusion and specialty pharmacy, retail pharmacy, DME suppliers, health plans and RCM outsourcers, as well as hospitals.
Not in scope: clinical care roles such as nurses, physicians and pharmacists; paramedics; medical technicians of any kind; reception and front-desk check-in; patient registration; appointment scheduling at any level; call-centre script-following; medical scribes; and transcription-only roles.
Candidates based outside the United States are expected to work within their own country's insurance, funding or billing system. Knowledge of US payers is a plus, never a requirement.
Fully remote, worked on your own schedule as an independent contractor.
