Summary

SEN Teaching Assistant – Totnes

Luma Education Recruitment is working with a specialist education setting in Totnes, Devon, that is seeking a committed and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join its team.

This is a rewarding opportunity for an individual who is passionate about supporting children and young people with special educational needs, SEMH, ASD, ADHD and behavioural needs.

You will work closely with pupils and the wider school team, providing consistent support that helps young people engage with learning, develop their confidence and make meaningful progress.

The Role

The successful SEN Teaching Assistant will be responsible for:

Providing targeted 1:1 and small-group support

Supporting pupils to engage positively with lessons and activities

Helping children overcome barriers to learning

Assisting teachers with classroom activities and individual learning programmes

Supporting pupils with their emotional, social and behavioural development

Encouraging independence, confidence and positive relationships

Promoting positive behaviour and maintaining clear boundaries

Supporting classroom routines and creating a calm learning environment

Developing strong, professional relationships with pupils

Working closely with teaching, pastoral and support staff

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate will have:

Experience working with children or young people

Previous experience within education, SEN, care, youth work or a similar setting

A genuine passion for supporting pupils with additional needs

A calm, patient and consistent approach

Confidence supporting children who may display challenging behaviour

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

The ability to adapt their approach to meet individual needs

A positive, reliable and professional attitude

A genuine commitment to helping young people achieve their potential

Relevant qualifications are advantageous, but experience, personality and the ability to build positive relationships are highly valued.

An Enhanced DBS will be required before commencing the role. Candidates already registered with the DBS Update Service are encouraged to apply.
