Salary: £41,500 per annum
Job Purpose:
To lead and manage the hygiene function, ensuring the highest standards of cleanliness, food safety and site hygiene are
consistently maintained. You will be responsible for developing and implementing effective cleaning procedures and schedules,
ensuring compliance with company and legislative standards, while leading and developing a highly trained and capable hygiene
team.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
* Responsible for all ‘people management aspects’ of the team
* Development of the hygiene team and CSA contracted cleaning
* Responsible for maintaining and updating the sites hygiene manual which includes:
* Cleaning work instructions for all hygiene tasks around the factory: work with Hygiene contractor to ensure this is correct,
valid and up to date
* Ensure all cleaning schedules are correct, valid and up to date, and that they are adhered to
* Training records for all Hygiene operatives are in place and up to date
* Development of safe systems of work
* Development of CIC cards for all new equipment brought to site
* Provide technical information as required by both internal and external customers
* Assist in the management of substances hazardous to health (COSHH) documentations (Health & Safety)
* Involvement in accident investigation reports
* Assisting Technical Team in Daily role
* Involvement in incident investigation to prevent re-occurrence. This may be out of specification swab detections or audit
failures
* Management of the Consumables stocks (High Care PPE & Consumables)
* Involvement in preparing for BRC and other audits
* Management of Site Environmental Monitoring and Cleaning swabs and carry out RCA for the failures
* Management of Listeria Monitoring Plan
* Management of chemicals and titration checks
* Involvement of continuous improvement project work in relation to site hygiene
* Carry out inspection sign offs following completion of process equipment cleaning / engineering maintenance
* Accountable for CSA Hygiene Team, Amenities cleaners & Yard Hygiene Team
Health, Safety & Environment Responsibilities:
* Understand the Health, Safety & Environmental Policy’s, safe rules, and statutory requirements applying to all operations under
your control.
* Ensure that all employees that you manage understand and agree to company Health & Safety rules, have receive the appropriate
Health & Safety Induction, and are instruction and the level of supervision as may be necessary to enable them to work safely,
and without injury or ill health
* Ensure that all employees you manage know the procedures for reporting accidents and know what to do in the event of a fire, or
other emergencies that may require evacuation of the workplace.
* Ensure that, where required, protective clothing and equipment is available to all employees, and that it is correctly used
* Ensure that risk assessments are undertaken to an acceptable level, and that they are reviewed as required. Ensure employees
are aware of hazards and control measures that impact them. Continually seek to reduce risk where possible.
* Ensure that new processes , products and equipment are subject to a risk assessment, and that the residual level of risk is
reduced to an acceptable level prior to launch or implementation.
* Ensure regular safety inspections and audits are undertaken to check that the Health & Safety rules and procedures are fully
implemented and adhered to at all levels across the site.
* Investigate all accidents, incidents, near misses and dangerous occurrences promptly and report the findings to the Factory
Manager, and the Health Safety & Environmental Compliance Manager
* Ensure that appropriate remedial action is taken in respect of all reported defects and complaints
* Take responsibility for all Visitors / Contractors within your area
* Ensure that good housekeeping standards are maintained
* Ensure that all equipment is properly and regularly maintained, and repaired by competent persons, and that records are
maintained of these works.
* Stop a process that is operating out of compliance or specification on legal requirements or is unsafe.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
* Food Strong literacy and numeracy skills
* Microsoft Office
* Good communication skills and ability to give clear & detailed instructions
* Ability to demonstrate & describe procedures effectively
* Excellent interpersonal, influencing, coaching and negotiating skills
* Continuous improvement and Quality is a core value
* Ability to effectively build and manage relationships as well as motivate staff
* Excellent attention to detail
* Knowledge of food legislation and food safety principle essentials
* Understanding of microbiology testing procedures (desirable)
* Knowledge of BRC standards and quality management systems (desirable)
* Good working knowledge of products, processes and cleaning processes in a fast moving and challenging food
product/manufacturing environment (desirable)
Experience:
* Experience in a similar type role in Food Industry
* Previous people management experience (Supervisory role)
Qualification:
* Level 2 & 3 Food Safety & Hygiene
* ESOL Level 2 or equivalent
* HACCP Level 2
* HACCP Level 3 (desirable)
* IOSH in Health & Safety principles (desirable)
