The Opportunity
An established and friendly independent veterinary practice in West Berkshire is looking for an experienced
Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon to join its five-vet team. The practice has three sites, with the main branch ideally located between Reading and Newbury in a beautiful rural setting, alongside branches in Pangbourne and Spencers Wood.
The role offers a varied caseload, with days generally split between consultations and operating. The practice is well equipped with modern diagnostic facilities, including digital X-ray, new ultrasound equipment and endoscopy.
The successful Veterinary Surgeon will join a supportive and experienced team, including two Head Vets, three Registered Veterinary Nurses, a Head RVN and dedicated support staff. The additional experienced vet will also provide valuable support and mentorship to the practice's younger veterinary surgeons.
Some
sole charge work will be required, although support is always available when needed.
Career Development
The practice actively encourages its vets to develop their clinical interests and offers excellent support for further professional development. Certificate training is welcomed and funded where appropriate, with a generous CPD allowance and a strong willingness to invest in courses that benefit both the individual and practice.
There is also the potential for the successful candidate to take responsibility for and develop one of the practice's branch surgeries.
The Rota & Benefits
A flexible working pattern is available, with either a four or 4.5-day week considered. Full-time vets generally work four days per week, with average hours of
8:30am–6:30pm. Flexible hours can be discussed to suit individual requirements.
Saturday mornings are shared equally, currently working out at approximately
1 in 4, while Vets Now provides overnight and the remaining weekend out-of-hours cover.
The benefits package includes paid RCVS and BSAVA memberships, private health insurance, generous CPD funding and certificate support.
What They're Looking For
The practice is seeking an experienced
MRCVS Veterinary Surgeon who is confident with both medical and surgical cases and enjoys working as part of a close-knit team. The ability to work independently when required is important, as is a genuine interest in supporting less experienced colleagues.
A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential due to the rural location.
With clinical freedom, a supportive team and genuine opportunities for development, this is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon looking for a long-term role in West Berkshire.
