Maths Trainee Teacher | £26,761 Salary | PGCE & QTS | IMMEDIATE September Start | Burnley

We are seeking a motivated and academically capable individual to join our secondary school in Burnley

as soon as possible this September, as a Graduate Maths Teaching Assistant, with a clear and structured pathway to full teacher qualification within 12 months.

Whether you are a recent Mathematics graduate taking your first career step, or a professional looking to bring your numerical expertise into education, this programme offers a credible, well-supported route into the classroom — without sacrificing financial stability while you train.

This is a time-sensitive vacancy and applications are being reviewed on a rolling basis. We are looking to interview and appoint immediately.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is a salaried training position, not a traditional postgraduate course.

You will start with us this September, becoming an active member of our Maths department from day one — observing, co-teaching, and progressively taking on full classroom responsibility as your confidence and competence grow.

By the end of the academic year, you will hold both a PGCE and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), qualifications recognised by schools across England and Wales.

YOUR TRAINING YEAR AT A GLANCE

September to December — Structured observation and supported team-teaching. You will develop your understanding of lesson structure, classroom dynamics, and pupil assessment under close mentorship.

January to March — Increasing autonomy in lesson planning and delivery. You will begin to develop your own teaching style and build a working knowledge of assessment practice.

April to July — Independent classroom teaching, with a focus on refining your approach, strengthening classroom management, and completing your PGCE and QTS requirements.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

•

A university degree in Mathematics or a closely related numerate discipline is required (2:1 or above preferred); strong A-Level Mathematics further supports your application

• A clear commitment to education and a genuine interest in supporting young people's development

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• The ability to manage competing priorities and maintain a high standard of professional conduct throughout the training year

• Available to start immediately or at very short notice

A full UK driving licence is advantageous but not required. Burnley is accessible by public transport.
