Summary
Barts Health NHS Trust
The Royal London Children’s Hospital
Senior Clinical Fellow (ST 6-8 Equivalent) in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine
(Complex respiratory patients, Long-term ventilation and Sleep medicine)
Applications are invited for a Senior Clinical Fellow in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine at The Royal London Children’s Hospital, one of the largest tertiary paediatric centres in the UK. This post offers advanced clinical experience in complex respiratory medicine, paediatric sleep medicine, long-term ventilation and airway disorders within a busy tertiary referral service.
The fellowship is suitable for clinicians who have completed core paediatric training, hold MRCPCH (or equivalent), and have previous paediatric respiratory experience, which is a requirement for this role. International applicants are welcome.
Applicants must hold full GMC registration with licence to practise, MRCPCH (or equivalent), and have experience in general paediatrics at ST6 level or equivalent, alongside evidence of teaching, audit and governance activity. Previous experience in paediatric respiratory medicine and/or sleep medicine is essential for this fellowship, and candidates should demonstrate enthusiasm for multidisciplinary working and commitment to further developing their expertise in complex respiratory care.
The successful candidate will manage a wide range of respiratory conditions, including sleep-disordered breathing, chronic respiratory failure, neuromuscular disease, bronchiectasis, chronic lung disease, complex airway pathology and technology-dependent children. The role includes participation in respiratory inpatient care, tertiary referrals, specialist outpatient clinics (respiratory, sleep and long-term ventilation) and bronchoscopy lists, working closely with a highly experienced multidisciplinary team.
Structured training will be provided in paediatric sleep medicine and long-term ventilation, including polysomnography and other sleep studies, positive airway pressure therapies (CPAP/BiPAP), initiation and optimisation of invasive and non-invasive ventilation, and tracheostomy care. There are no mandatory out-of-hours commitments, though participation in the paediatric middle-grade rota may be available by agreement.
The department has strong academic links with Queen Mary University of London and offers excellent opportunities for research, audit, quality improvement and service development, making this an ideal post for those pursuing a career in paediatric respiratory medicine, sleep medicine, long-term ventilation or academic paediatrics.
