Summary

1. Position Overview Job Title: Salaried General Practitioner (GP) Position Type: Fixed-Term Contract - October 2026 - end of March 2027 (with scope to extend) Location: Yardley Wood Health Centre, B14 Reporting To: Partners Accountable To: Partners Patient List Size: 11,000 Primary Network: MOBY Primary Care Network (PCN) 2. Job Purpose The postholder will provide high-quality, evidence-based, and compassionate general medical services to the registered patient population of Yardley Wood Health Centre. Operating as an autonomous clinician within a highly supportive, multidisciplinary team, the Salaried GP will manage a diverse clinical caseload, actively participate in quality improvement initiatives, and contribute to the practices long-standing reputation as a center of educational and clinical excellence. 3. Key Responsibilities & Clinical Duties Clinical Care Delivery Consultations: Conduct autonomous clinical consultations via face-to-face appointments, telephone triages, digital video platforms, and home visits as clinically indicated. Diagnosis & Management: Accurately diagnose, treat, and manage patients presenting with acute illnesses, complex co-morbidities, and long-term chronic conditions. Prescribing: Issue safe, evidence-based, and cost-effective prescriptions in accordance with the local formulary, national guidelines, and practice protocols. Referrals: Initiate appropriate, timely, and well-documented referrals to secondary care, community services, and voluntary sector partners. Preventative Medicine: Promote health and well-being through proactive screening, lifestyle advice, national immunisation programmes, and routine health checks. Emergency Care: Provide initial management and stabilization for patients presenting with acute medical emergencies during surgery hours. Clinical Administration & Digital Workflow Digital Triage: Effectively navigate and manage the practices advanced GP led digital triage and appointment management system to ensure safe, equitable patient access. Pathology & Imaging: Review, interpret, and action electronic laboratory results, imaging reports, and diagnostic investigations promptly. Clinical Correspondence: Review, code, and action hospital discharge summaries, clinic letters, and community team notifications. Medical Records: Maintain highly accurate, contemporaneous, and legally robust electronic medical records using the practices clinical software system. Teamwork & Multidisciplinary Collaboration MDT Participation: Attend and contribute actively to regular clinical, multidisciplinary team (MDT), palliative care, and safeguarding meetings. Peer Support: Engage in a collaborative "open-door" culture, providing and receiving peer support on complex casework during clinical sessions. Cross-Cover: Cooperate with clinical colleagues to ensure seamless care delivery and operational resilience during planned absences. 4. Quality, Governance, & Professional Development Clinical Governance & Audit Quality Improvement: Participate in clinical audits, significant event reviews (SEAs), and root cause analyses to improve patient safety and service delivery. Guidelines: Adhere to national guidelines (e.g., NICE, SIGN) and local clinical pathways established by the Integrated Care Board (ICB). Safeguarding: Actively identify, report, and manage safeguarding concerns for vulnerable children and adults, strictly adhering to local policies. Personal & Professional Development Appraisal & Revalidation: Maintain professional registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and successfully complete annual NHS appraisals and quinquennial revalidation. Continuing Professional Development (CPD): Undertake regular learning activities to maintain clinical competence and expand personal clinical portfolios. Teaching & Training: Support the practice's educational ethos by assisting in the mentorship or supervision of medical students from the University of Birmingham or GP Registrars when required. 5.
