The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust (RNOH) is seeking motivated Bank Critical Care Nurses to join our skilled and supportive Critical Care team. Working within our Critical Care Unit, you will provide high-quality care to patients requiring enhanced monitoring and complex post-operative management following major orthopaedic and spinal surgery. The Role You will assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualised care for critically ill and high-dependency patients. You will monitor patients' conditions, respond to clinical changes, participate in admission and discharge planning, support patients and families, and work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team. You will maintain professional standards, ensure patient safety, and contribute to a compassionate and effective service. About YouYou will be an NMC Registered Nurse with Critical Care, ICU, HDU or acute care experience. You will be a strong communicator, able to prioritise effectively in a fast-paced environment, committed to delivering high-quality patient care, and motivated to develop your specialist clinical skills.
The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH) is a national centre of excellence, treating patients from across the UK who are often referred for second opinions or for the management of complex or rare orthopaedic conditions. Patients benefit from care delivered by highly specialised consultants, many of whom are recognised nationally and internationally for their expertise. These consultants work alongside specialist nurses, therapists, and clinical staff who are experts in their respective fields.
• Provide high-quality direct patient care to critically ill and high-dependency patients requiring enhanced monitoring and complex interventions.
• Practise in accordance with the NMC Code and professional standards.
• Be responsible for assessing patients' needs, planning, implementing, and evaluating individualised care within the critical care environment.
• Act as an advocate for patients and their families, ensuring compassionate and patient-centred care.
• Assume accountability for direct patient care and support of relatives and significant others.
• Undertake comprehensive patient assessments, identify actual and potential problems, and establish appropriate goals of care.
• Plan, implement, and evaluate all aspects of patient care from admission to discharge, working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team.
• Ensure the physical, psychological, and emotional needs of patients and their families are met.
• Discuss developments, clinical concerns, and changes in patient condition with the nurse in charge and wider multidisciplinary team.
• Promote and support the delivery of high standards of evidence-based critical care practice.
• Be responsible for the safe administration of medications and intravenous therapies in accordance with national guidance and Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust policies.
• Provide patients and relatives with timely, accurate information regarding their condition, treatment, and progress.
• Act at all times in accordance with NMC standards and RNOH policies, protocols, and clinical guidelines, working within own scope of professional practice.
• Recognise and escalate concerns regarding patient deterioration in a timely manner, ensuring patient safety remains paramount.
• Maintain knowledge of current developments in critical care nursing and healthcare practice and participate in research, audit, and quality improvement initiatives as required.
• Respect patients' rights to confidentiality and maintain information governance standards at all times.
• Act as a professional role model and demonstrate leadership within the clinical environment.
• Maintain accurate, comprehensive, and contemporaneous patient records, ensuring confidentiality in both verbal and written communication.
• Participate in the ongoing development and improvement of the Critical Care Unit.
• Actively contribute to the supervision, support, and teaching of junior staff, students, and new team members.
• Maintain professional registration and fulfil NMC revalidation requirements, ensuring continuous professional development and clinical competence.
• Comply with mandatory training requirements and participate in annual appraisal and personal development processes.
