We are currently recruiting for an experienced
Coatings Manager
to join a busy manufacturing operation in Newcastle-under-Lyme.
This is a key leadership position, responsible for overseeing coating operations across
multiple manufacturing sites and paint lines
. You will be responsible for driving high standards across safety, quality, productivity, capacity and continuous improvement, while ensuring consistent processes and performance across the operation.
Working closely with Production, Planning, Quality, Technical, Engineering and Maintenance teams, you will play a key role in improving efficiency, reducing waste and ensuring customer and operational requirements are consistently met.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage coating operations across multiple sites and production lines
Manage and support supervisors and production teams, ensuring effective staffing, training and performance
Develop and maintain consistent operating standards and best practices
Work closely with Production Planning to manage capacity, workload and priorities
Monitor and improve key departmental KPIs, including productivity, efficiency, downtime, quality, rework, labour and material usage
Lead continuous improvement projects to increase capacity, improve quality, reduce waste and control costs
Take ownership of coating quality and process control, investigating defects and recurring issues
Work collaboratively with Technical, Production, Maintenance and Commercial teams on new products and process improvements
Manage relationships with key paint and coating suppliers
Monitor material and consumable usage, identifying opportunities to reduce waste and improve cost control
Work with Maintenance teams to improve equipment reliability and minimise unplanned downtime
Ensure all coating operations meet relevant health, safety, environmental and quality standards
Support investigations into significant safety, environmental, quality and operational incidents
Contribute to longer-term investment and improvement plans for coating facilities and equipment
About You
We are looking for someone with:
Proven management experience within an
industrial coatings or manufacturing environment
Strong technical knowledge of coating processes, surface preparation, application, curing, inspection and defect resolution
Experience managing supervisors and production teams, including resource, capacity and performance management
A proven track record of improving safety, quality, productivity, efficiency and costs
Experience working with KPIs, budgets, material usage, waste reduction and continuous improvement
Good knowledge of paint line equipment, maintenance and operational reliability
Strong understanding of health, safety, environmental and quality requirements
Excellent leadership, communication and problem-solving skills
A proactive and commercially aware approach, with the ability to balance safety, quality, delivery and cost
The ability to work collaboratively across different departments and levels of the business
Relevant coatings, engineering, manufacturing or management qualifications would be desirable
