Summary

A Vacancy at South West London and St George's Mental Health NHS Trust.

This post is in the Neuropsychiatry Service, one of the specialist services managed by the Specialist Services Directorate. This is part of the South West London and St. George’s Mental Health NHS Trust. The Trust is responsible for the provision of Mental Health Services to the population of Merton, Sutton, Wandsworth, Kingston and Richmond, as well as providing highly specialist services to a wider, regional and national catchment area.

The Neuropsychiatry Service offers a specialist mental health service to people aged 18 years and older with neuropsychiatric presentations.

Working pattern will be 2 days per week:

To assist in clinically related administration, development of audit and/or research projects, teaching and project work. To administer, collect and score psychometrics for service outcome measures, maintain the database, analyse data and write up appropriate reports.

To support and enhance the professional psychological care of clients within the service, providing psychological assessment and psychological interventions under the supervision of a clinical psychologist and/or CBT therapist, working independently according to a plan agreed with a clinical psychologist and within the overall framework of the team’s policies and procedures.

You will be based at St. George’s Hospital, Tooting.

The post-holder’s main roles will be:

• to assist in clinically related administration

• to assist in the development of audit and/or research projects, teaching and project work.

• to support and enhance the professional psychological care of clients within the service under the supervision of a clinical psychologist or CBT therapist.

Audit, Research and Service Evaluation

1. To undertake data collection, establish and maintain databases to measure clinical outcomes within the service, and to analyse and produce reports using this data.

2. To assist in the design and implementation of audit, service development and research projects.

3. To undertake searches of evidence-based literature and research to assist qualified clinical psychologists in evidence-based practice in individual work and work with other team members.

4. To use computers for databases or data-analysis e.g. Microsoft Excel or SPSS for Windows.

Clinical

(Under appropriate supervision from a qualified clinical psychologist or CBT therapist)

1. To observe clinical psychological assessments and contribute to the writing of psychological reports.

2.Where appropriate, to undertake protocol based psychological assessments, including neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the client’s care.

3. To assist in the formulation and delivery of care plans involving the psychological treatment and/or management of a client’s problems.

4. To assist in the coordination and running of therapeutic groups.To observe groups and contribute to the clinical notes of these sessions.

5. To attend and contribute to appropriate team meetings.

Teaching, Training and Supervision

1. To undertake mandatory and statutory training, supervision and annual appraisal as required by Trust policy.

2. In common with all psychology and psychotherapies staff, to receive regular clinical supervision in accordance with professional practice guidelines.

3. To develop skills and competencies that assist in the delivery of current duties.

Management, Recruitment and Service Development

1. To assist in the design and implementation of service development projects within the service as required.

2. To attend meetings in which service developments are planned and discussed
