Summary

Job Title: Health care assistant – Outpatients & Pre assessment

Accountable to: Clinical Lead for Pre assessment, Outpatients & Outreach

Location: South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre

Line Managed by: Matron

Qualifications: Good Basic Education including Maths & English at GCSE level or equivalent NVQ Level 2

Experience of working with a Healthcare environment

Good literacy and numeracy skills

Job Summary:

To work towards maintaining a cohesive multidisciplinary team and to provide high quality care to patients. To ensure the efficient running of the outpatients & pre assessment department. 

1. To assist the Doctor by preparing equipment for minor procedures.

2.  To ensure patients privacy and dignity maintained at all times, chaperone the medical/Clinical staff as necessary.

3. Record patients vital signs

4. Carry out venesection and ECG when deemed competent, access any results and ensure passed onto the relevant personnel.

5. Assist with the moving and handling of patients using the correct aids available.

6. Record patient’s height and weight and assist them in completing any research questionnaires as required.

The responsibilities outlined encompass supporting clinical operations and ensuring efficient patient care. This includes preparing equipment for minor procedures, maintaining patient privacy and dignity, recording vital signs, assisting with procedures such as venesection and ECG, and helping with patient movement using appropriate aids. The role also involves recording patient measurements, aiding with research questionnaires, and escorting patients to various departments like X-ray. In the clinic setting, tasks include keeping the clinic environment tidy, stocking trolley supplies, managing confidential information, ensuring accurate documentation of notes and X-rays, and liaising with departments to facilitate patient flow. Additionally, the role involves notifying staff for drug restocking, cleaning equipment, managing communications, and operating computer systems effectively, alongside performing administrative duties. In terms of education and research, responsibilities include personal development, participating in clinical audits and clinical governance, supporting staff training, and supervising others in training programs to foster a positive learning environment within the centre.
