Summary

Job Summary/Purpose The post holder will work as part of a team of 6 qualified and 3 assistant psychology staff to provide a high-quality specialist clinical psychology service to mental health inpatients and ward staff in North Manchester. The North Manchester service consists of 6 acute ward and a psychiatric intensive care unit. The post holder will be an active member of the acute care workforce, and. on the wards where they are based, will liaise across all sectors of care, providing direction and oversight of psychological assessment, formulation and interventions (individual and group) provided by nominated ward staff. They will offer advice and consultation on psychological care planning to non-psychologist colleagues, as well as to other non-professional carers and workers of other agencies where appropriate. There will be strong emphasis on training and supervising inpatient practitioners with a specialist role in delivering psychosocial interventions/basic psychological interventions on an individual and group basis. They will carry an individual caseload and deliver short evidence-based interventions as well as carrying out complex assessments to support care and discharge. They will work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the teams policies and procedures. The post holder will utilise research skills for audit, policy and research within the area served by the teams/service. They will clinically supervise and line manage the assistant psychologists on their wards to deliver a structured group and individual programme. They will supervise clinical psychology Doctorate Programme trainees when they are on placement in the service. As part of the wards senior clinical team they will ensure the best use of the psychological resource, will ensure that all psychological work in line with local, Trust and national priorities and delivered to the highest possible standard.
