As a Commis Chef you'll play an important role in supporting the UK's parliamentary democracy. Your work will help Members carry out their responsibilities effectively - contributing to something bigger than any one role.

You'll be part of a collaborative community, working alongside colleagues from a wide range of professions. Together, we make Parliament happen.

You'll be based on the Parliamentary Estate in Westminster - a unique working environment shaped by history and powered by the people who work here today.

You'll support the kitchen team in the preparation and delivery of food for large-scale, high-profile events, gaining hands-on experience in a fast-paced, professional environment.

You'll will work under the guidance of Chef de Parties and Sous Chefs, developing your skills in food preparation, organisation, and service execution while contributing to consistent quality and efficient delivery across multiple functions.

This is an excellent opportunity to develop a career within a high-end banqueting operation, supporting the delivery of food for Peers, distinguished guests, and third-party clients across a range of prestigious events.

What you'll be doing

In this role, you'll:

  • Support the preparation and cooking of dishes for a variety of banqueting events and functions, working alongside experienced chefs.
  • Assist with mise en place activities, helping to ensure the smooth and efficient delivery of events and services.
  • Contribute to the preparation, cooking, and presentation of food, maintaining the high standards expected by the House of Lords.
  • Help ensure food is prepared and served in a timely manner to support a seamless guest experience.
  • Develop an understanding of portioning, presentation, and consistency while taking pride in the quality of your work.
  • Provide support to the wider kitchen team during busy service periods and large-scale events.
  • Have a recognised culinary qualification (e.g. NVQ Level 1 or Level 2 in Professional Cookery, or equivalent).

  • An understanding of the importance of food hygiene and a commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety.
  • An enthusiastic approach to developing new skills and gaining experience in a professional kitchen environment.
  • The ability to work positively and respectfully with colleagues as part of a supportive team.
  • A willingness to take on new challenges, follow instructions, and learn from experienced chefs.
  • The ability to stay organised and work effectively in a busy environment, with support and guidance from the team.

It would be even better if you have (or are willing to learn):

  • Experience in event-led or large-scale hospitality.
  • Interest in banqueting and formal service environments.
