About the role
We are looking for an experienced Business Central Software Developer to join our internal ERP team and help develop Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central across a growing, multi-entity engineering services group.
You will work alongside the Business Central Lead, a Functional Consultant, and a Junior Developer, delivering solutions across finance, projects, procurement and operational systems.
This is a hands-on role with a strong focus on technical ownership. You will take development from an agreed business requirement through solution design, build, testing and release, working across AL extensions, APIs, integrations, workflow automation and existing customisations.
As a Business Central Software Developer, you will
Design, develop and maintain Business Central extensions in AL.
Take technical ownership of development from requirement through to deployment.
Build and support APIs and integrations between Business Central and operational systems.
Work with the Business Central Lead and Functional Consultant to turn business requirements into pragmatic, maintainable solutions.
Develop functionality supporting finance, project accounting, procurement, approvals and operational reporting.
Investigate and resolve defects, integration failures and issues within existing customisations.
Identify opportunities to simplify existing solutions and make better use of standard Business Central functionality.
Produce maintainable, well-documented code using source control, peer review and agreed development standards.
Support testing and structured release activities.
Work effectively across a multi-company Business Central environment.
Collaborate with and support the Junior Developer through knowledge sharing and code review.
About you
You will have solid commercial experience developing solutions for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. We are looking for someone operating at mid-level or above who is comfortable working independently, taking ownership of technical delivery and contributing to solution design.
You will ideally have experience in several of the following:
AL development and Business Central extension architecture
APIs, web services and external integrations
Events and extensibility patterns
Git and source-controlled development
Debugging and performance troubleshooting
Finance, purchasing, sales or project functionality in Business Central
Multi-company Business Central environments
Supporting solutions in a live production environment
Code reviews and supporting less experienced developers
Experience with cloud platforms or middleware such as Azure or AWS would be beneficial.
Experience within engineering, utilities, construction or another project-based organisation would also be useful, but is not essential.
Above all, we are looking for someone who can combine strong Business Central development skills with practical judgement and a focus on building reliable, maintainable solutions.
