Summary

Are you an experienced roofer looking to move off the tools?

UK Roof Surveys is an independent roof inspection company carrying out specialist roof surveys for property buyers, homeowners and other clients across the UK.

We are looking for an experienced roofer, roofing supervisor or roofing professional who wants to use their practical knowledge in a roof inspection and surveying role.

This is not a roofing installation or repair role. We do not carry out the remedial roofing work identified during our surveys, allowing our inspections to remain independent.

You do not need previous experience as a roof surveyor. We are primarily looking for someone with strong practical roofing knowledge who can be trained in our inspection procedures, evidence collection and reporting standards.

The role

Initially, you will primarily carry out residential homebuyer and pre-purchase roof surveys.

Your responsibilities will include:

Attending pre-booked residential inspections

Carrying out systematic external and internal roof inspections

Identifying defects, deterioration and poor workmanship

Inspecting tiles, slates, flat roofing, leadwork, flashings, valleys, ridges, verges and roof junctions

Assessing chimneys, gutters and associated roof components

Inspecting roof spaces where access and the inspection scope permit

Taking comprehensive photographs and videos

Recording clear site notes and evidence

Using specialist inspection equipment where required

Communicating professionally with homeowners, buyers and other clients

Providing the information required for UK Roof Surveys reports

Following company inspection and quality-control procedures

You will not be expected to sell roofing repairs or generate roofing work from inspections.

Who we're looking for

The ideal candidate will have substantial hands-on roofing experience and a strong understanding of how roofs are constructed, maintained and repaired.

We would particularly like to hear from experienced:

Roofers

Roofing supervisors

Roofing foremen

Roofing contracts managers

Roofing estimators

Roofing inspectors

Roofing site supervisors

You should have good practical knowledge of several of the following:

Pitched tiled roofing

Natural and artificial slate

Flat roofing systems

Leadwork and flashings

Chimneys

Valleys

Ridges and verges

Roof windows

Gutters and roof drainage

Roof ventilation

Common causes of water ingress

Roofing defects and deterioration

Identifying poor or defective workmanship

Essential requirements

Strong practical roofing experience

Full UK driving licence

Good attention to detail

Comfortable using a smartphone/tablet and digital systems

Ability to take clear and comprehensive inspection photographs

Good written and verbal communication

Professional manner when attending customers' properties

Ability to work independently and manage a daily schedule

Willingness to travel as part of the role

Previous surveying experience is not essential.

Drone, thermal-imaging or inspection experience would be advantageous, but training can be provided.

Training

Full training will be provided in the UK Roof Surveys inspection and reporting process.

Initially, you will work alongside an experienced roof inspector before progressing to straightforward residential surveys independently.

Your inspections will be quality checked during your training and development.

More complex inspections, disputes, expert-witness work and specialist investigations will remain with senior inspectors until you have the appropriate experience.

Typical working day

The role will generally involve attending approximately two scheduled residential roof inspections per day, depending on location, property complexity and travel requirements.

Unlike a traditional roofing position, your role is to inspect, investigate and document roofs rather than install or repair them.

What we offer

£32,000–£38,000 salary depending on experience

Company vehicle

Inspection equipment provided

Full training in roof surveying and inspection procedures

No roofing installation work

No repair sales targets

Opportunity to move away from physically demanding roofing work

Opportunity to develop specialist inspection skills

Progression opportunities as UK Roof Surveys expands nationally

About UK Roof Surveys

UK Roof Surveys provides independent specialist roof inspections and reports.

Our independence is important: we inspect and report on roof condition but do not sell the resulting repair work.

We are expanding our inspection coverage and are looking for an experienced roofing professional who can grow with the business.

How to apply

Please apply with your CV and, where possible, include a short summary covering:

Your years of roofing experience

The roofing systems you have worked with

Any supervisory, estimating or inspection experience

Your current location

Your availability

If you've spent years building up roofing knowledge but are ready to move away from full-time work on the tools, we'd particularly like to hear from you.
