Summary
Bartender
Join our team and help bring the story of a great English manor to life, one conversation at a time
At Dumbleton Hall, we do not simply run a hotel — we steward a great English manor, where every guest is received as the honoured guest of the family. Fires are lit, dinner is served, and life unfolds as it once did in the Golden Age of English country houses. Our team brings this story to life every day.
We're looking for warm, thoughtful individuals with real character to help us create a guest experience unlike anywhere else in the Cotswolds.
Who We Are
Set in the richest pocket of the Cotswolds, our story reaches back to the Holland family, the literary circles of Gaskell, Dickens and Darwin, the Mitford sisters, and poet laureate John Betjeman. Today, we continue that tradition, offering guests a living narrative of culture and hospitality drawn from the Belle Époque, the 1920s, and artistic touchstones such as William Morris and Frederic Leighton.
The Role
As a Bartender at Dumbleton Hall, you are the heartbeat of our bar and floor — often a guest's favourite conversation of the stay. You take ownership of the bar space, keep the floor running smoothly, and support our restaurant team by running drinks during service. Beyond the pour, this role is about uplifting the guest experience through genuine conversation and connection — the kind of warm, attentive presence that makes every guest feel like an honoured guest of the family.
Key Responsibilities
Take ownership of the bar space and adjoining floor, ensuring both are welcoming, well-stocked and always guest-ready
Prepare and serve drinks — cocktails, wine, spirits and soft drinks — to a high, consistent standard of quality and presentation
Support the restaurant team by running drinks promptly and accurately during busy service periods
Build genuine rapport with guests through warm conversation and attentiveness, uplifting their experience beyond the drink itself
Offer confident recommendations on cocktails, wine and spirits, tailored to guest taste and occasion
Manage bar and cellar stock, including ordering, rotation and wastage control
Maintain licensing, health and safety, and responsible service of alcohol at all times
Support weddings, private events and seasonal occasions — from the Cheltenham Festival to the Gold Cup — with bar service front and centre
Liaise closely with the restaurant and kitchen teams to ensure smooth, well-paced service across the floor
Process payments and maintain accurate records where required
Who We're Looking For
Warm, articulate, and genuinely guest-focused, with a natural gift for conversation and connection
Previous bar experience is desirable but not essential — the right character and charisma matter most
Sound knowledge of, or enthusiasm to learn, cocktails, wine and spirits
A keen eye for detail, presentation and the atmosphere of the room
Comfortable running a busy bar and floor independently during peak service
Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends and events
Why Join Us
