Summary

Please note this role requires you to pass Security Check clearance. For further information, please see 'Selection process details'.

Do you want to be part of an energetic, innovative team and bring your skills to one of the biggest changes to the administration of the Civil Service in decades?

We’re looking for people who are flexible, intuitive and are comfortable taking high levels of volume, speed and complexity in their stride.

An exciting role is available in the Synergy Shared Services Hub (Hub), a new organisation which will manage shared services on behalf of departments in the Synergy cluster: Ministry of Justice, Department for Work and Pensions, Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and the Home Office.

Your work will impact Shared Services arrangements and support almost a quarter of a million officials and public servants across the four departments and arm’s length bodies who deliver some of the most vital public services in our country.

The success of the Hub is crucial, as Civil Servants rely on shared services to provide business critical tools in human resources, finance, payroll and procurement. Shared services affect everything we do, from joining a department as a new starter, the way we claim for expenses, how we buy goods and services such as our laptops and canteen provisions, to the way we receive our pensions when we retire.

Most importantly, we’re looking for applications from people who can also demonstrate a passion for our core ambition - delivering a once in a generation, transformed service.

Primarily, this role will involve leading the design and development of reporting data solutions using Oracle Fusion Data Intelligence (FDI/AIDP), OTBI and other modern cloud technologies, ensuring data products are scalable, secure and fit for reporting purposes.

You'll work across the full reporting development lifecycle, designing and developing the data pipelines, integrations, datasets and reporting products that enable reporting and analytics services across the Synergy Shared Services Hub. While the role has a strong focus on data engineering, you'll also contribute to the development and enhancement of report solutions, ensuring they deliver trusted management information and insight to users across multiple government departments.

This role has a strong emphasis on technical leadership. You'll provide direction, guidance and support to Data Engineers, helping to develop technical capability, establish engineering standards and promote best practice across the reporting team.

Working as part of the Hub Reporting Team, you'll help shape and steer the data engineering function within a wider reporting product team. You'll work closely with a variety of stakeholders to design and deliver robust, scalable and reusable reporting solutions.

You'll support the development of data engineering capability across the team, helping the team understand and make effective use of emerging technologies, and supporting colleagues in developing their skills.

You will be accountable for:

  • Leading the implementation of Management Information (MI) / Business Intelligence (BI) reports and dashboards to meet customer requirements. Includes working with experts in other disciplines to implement dashboard and reporting standards.
  • Leading the collection of complex data requirements from a wide range of stakeholders, interpreting the data and shape data sets for Data Analysts to fulfil requirements in their creation of analysis and insight dashboards and other reporting products.
  • Leading the design, build and testing of data products based on feeds from multiple systems, applying expert knowledge of data engineering, storage technologies and access methods, while promoting consistent approaches across the teams.
  • Leading the development and maintenance of ETL processes to clean, transform, and load data into appropriate storage systems, including ensuring consistent application across the team for a wide range of downstream reporting uses.
  • Providing the team with leadership and expertise on how we build, test and maintain data pipelines and products at scale, implementing core standards for code, quality, security, and operational resilience; ensuring and implementing cross-departmental consistency.
  • Leading the development and implementation of data management and tracking policies and procedures across teams, in order to ensure data integrity, security, and access while maintaining compliance to GDPR and other relevant legislation.
  • Providing technical leadership, setting engineering team and community direction to ensure the products that are developed conform to data standards and strategic principles.
