Summary

Utilise effective communication with patients, carers, relatives and relevant others. Assist Audiologists with specialised and complex tests (adult and paediatric population). Assist with vestibular procedures. Provide the following services (adult population):o Otoscopyo Basic history takingo Basic Pure tone audiometryo Screening tympanometryo Use of standardised questionnaireso Impression taking and selection of ear mouldso Ear mould modificationo Comprehensive Hearing aid repair service including drop-off, postal and direct patient contacto Perform basic functionality tests on hearing aidso Follow up counsellingo Advise on environmental aids Identify equipment faults and act to resolve these difficulties. Check, organise and send off hearing aids for refurbishment. Undertake telephone reviews. Have a good knowledge of the audiology procedures and range of services provided so that patients questions can be satisfactorily answered via direct patient contact or telephone/email communication. Refer clinical decisions outside own experience to an Audiologist. Maintain electronic patient records using specialist audiological programs. Responsible for auditing and updating cleaning schedules and general tidiness of the clinic rooms. Have a good understanding of the needs of the Audiology patients so that clear communication is possible in a friendly and helpful manner at all times Assist patients with mobility problems, including moving wheelchairs on a regular basis. Awareness of health and safety with frequent exposure to body fluids, e.g. wax, aural discharge, and the safe handling of contaminated items, e.g. ear moulds from infected ears. Report promptly any concerns to the Audiology Team Lead, Deputy Head or Head of Audiology. Have a can-do, positive attitude to delivery of a caring service provision. Undertake any such duties as deemed appropriate by the Head of Department. Administration Create patient appointments for RSCH clinics at Guildford and external sites on the patient management systems. Scan referral letters onto the patient management system. Manage and take responsibility for patients as they arrive for their appointments and sign them in on the appropriate systems. Assist in clerical and reception duties as required. Prepare clinics for and at outreach sites: patient records, equipment and stock. Maintain stock levels in Audiology rooms at RSCH Guildford and external sites. Responsible for Omnicell cabinet bin levels and liaise with procurement and Lead Audiologists. Check and organise distribution and transport of monthly stock to FPH sites. Assist in monitoring overall stock levels. Assist with monthly stock stats. Send ear mould impressions to manufacturers and receipt them on return. Take meeting notes when required. Ensure requested batteries and tubing are sent out to the patients. Complete Audiology outcomes on the patient management system. Order and receipt stock ordered in the Audiology department. Responsible for organising paperwork left at the departmental printer. Visit outreach sites as required. Undertake any such duties as deemed appropriate by the Head of Department. Training and Development Assist with the delivery of internal training programmes with support of the Team Lead. Update skills and clinical knowledge as appropriate for the role. Participate in audits, surveys and research. Participate in staff meetings and propose changes to working practices in own area. Undertake any such duties as deemed appropriate by the Head of Department.
