Summary
Undertake routine and urgent venepuncture safely and effectively. Correctly collect, label, handle and transport blood samples. Maintain high standards of infection prevention and control. Ensure phlebotomy equipment and stock are clean, safe and in date. Follow safe sharps management and disposal procedures. Provide reassurance and support to patients who may be anxious or distressed. Maintain accurate and timely patient records and uphold confidentiality. Work effectively with Practice Nurses and the wider Primary Care Team. Escalate clinical concerns and safeguarding issues appropriately. Maintain professional competence through training, appraisal and continuing development. Support clinical audits, quality improvement and health promotion activities where required. Provide flexible support to the Practice and Primary Care Network, including cover for colleagues when required.
