Summary
The electrical assistant is responsible for supporting the delivery of a safe, responsive and compliant electrical maintenance service across all Oxford University Hospitals sites. Working as part of the Estates and Facilities team, the post holder undertakes planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive maintenance, minor installation works and emergency repairs to ensure that engineering services remain operational and support the delivery of high-quality patient care. Key responsibilities include: Carry out planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs on electrical systems and associated building services in accordance with Trust policies, Health Technical Memoranda (HTMs), British Standards and statutory regulations. Assist with the maintenance, repair and installation of electrical infrastructure, including lighting, emergency lighting, small power, nurse call systems and other essential engineering services. Respond promptly to maintenance requests, identify faults and carry out repairs or escalate complex issues to the appropriate competent person or team leader. Support the delivery of statutory maintenance programmes, ensuring that engineering systems remain safe, reliable and compliant with legislative and regulatory requirements. Assist with electrical installations, enabling works and minor projects under the supervision of qualified electrical staff. Complete maintenance records, work orders, inspection reports, job dockets and timesheets accurately using the Trust's maintenance management systems. Work collaboratively with other estates trades and contractors to deliver an integrated maintenance service across all hospital sites. Prioritise workloads to meet changing operational demands and maintain high standards of safety, quality and customer service. Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), tools and equipment and comply with safe systems of work, risk assessments and Trust health and safety policies. Participate in estates inspections, audits and quality assurance activities, identifying opportunities for service improvement and supporting continuous compliance. Communicate effectively with clinical staff, patients, contractors and colleagues, providing updates on maintenance activities while minimising disruption to clinical services. Participate in the Trust's out-of-hours on-call rota and work overtime when required to respond to emergency situations and maintain critical engineering services. Support colleagues across the Estates and Facilities Department, assisting other engineering disciplines where appropriate to ensure an efficient and resilient maintenance service. Undertake mandatory training and continuous professional development to maintain technical competence and support the evolving needs of the service.
