Summary
JOB SUMMARY: The Salaried General Practitioner will provide high-quality, safe and compassionate medical care to patients at Compass House Medical Centres, working collaboratively as part of our multidisciplinary team and contributing to the effective delivery and ongoing development of our services. At Compass House, we see every member of the team as contributing at three levels: Individual contribution delivering their own role to a consistently high standard and taking responsibility for their professional practice. Team contribution contributing positively to the effectiveness, culture and functioning of their immediate and wider multidisciplinary team. Practice contribution contributing their experience, ideas and expertise to the wider life, improvement and development of Compass House. For our GPs, this means providing excellent individual clinical care, working collaboratively and supporting colleagues across the multidisciplinary team, and contributing positively to the ongoing improvement of how we work. The post holder will work in accordance with Good Medical Practice, relevant contractual and regulatory requirements, Compass House policies and procedures, and our values of Caring, Teamwork, Collaboration, Excellence, Listening and Innovation. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Clinical Care & Patient Experience Provide high-quality, evidence-based and person-centred general medical services to the practice population. Assess, diagnose, investigate, treat and appropriately refer patients presenting with acute, chronic and complex health needs. Provide care through face-to-face, telephone and digital consultations according to clinical need and practice systems. Prescribe safely and appropriately in accordance with current guidance and local formulary arrangements. Promote preventative healthcare, health improvement and shared decision-making. Recognise and respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns and patients at risk. Undertake home visits where clinically appropriate and required. The majority of routine home visiting is currently supported by the ANP team. Maintain clear, accurate and contemporaneous clinical records. 2. Clinical Administration & Continuity of Care Hold a patient list on a pro-rata basis as part of the GP team and contribute to continuity of care for those patients. Manage associated clinical administration, including results, correspondence, prescriptions, referrals and other clinical tasks, within agreed timescales. Contribute fairly to the management of clinical workload and administration during periods of colleague absence. Complete appropriate reports, forms and other clinical documentation allocated on a fair-share basis. Manage workload effectively and raise concerns where clinical demand or workload presents a potential risk to safe patient care. 3. Teamwork & Contribution to the Wider Practice Work collaboratively with GP colleagues, ANPs, the Nursing Team, Clinical Pharmacy Team, Care Co-ordination Team and other members of the multidisciplinary team. Contribute positively to a supportive, respectful and psychologically safe working environment where colleagues feel able to ask questions, share ideas and raise concerns. Communicate openly and constructively, supporting colleagues and sharing workload appropriately as part of the wider clinical team. Attend and actively participate in regular clinical and team meetings, recognising these as an important part of communication, shared learning, clinical governance and effective team working. Take responsibility for remaining up to date with relevant practice communications, meeting outcomes and changes to systems or procedures. Contribute ideas, experience and clinical expertise to service improvement and the ongoing development of how we work. Work collaboratively across Compass House sites and wider services where reasonably required. 4. Clinical Lead & Wider Responsibilities Hold an agreed clinical lead area, based on practice need alongside the GP's skills, experience and interests. Develop appropriate knowledge and expertise within the agreed area and act as a point of contact for colleagues. Contribute to relevant quality improvement, clinical governance, audit or service development activity associated with the lead role. Participate in QOF, IIF and other practice quality, contractual and improvement initiatives. Take a fair and proportionate share of Duty / On Call responsibilities, according to sessions worked and the needs of the GP team. Participate on a fair-share basis in extended hours and other contracted clinical services delivered by the practice. Provide reasonable flexibility to support service delivery, including changes to working arrangements where required, with appropriate notice and in accordance with contractual arrangements. Where additional clinical sessions are required to support absence or service need, participate where reasonably possible, with additional work managed in accordance with contractual arrangements. 5. Quality, Safety & Continuous Improvement Participate actively in clinical governance, significant event learning, audit and quality improvement. Identify and appropriately escalate clinical, operational or patient-safety concerns. Contribute constructively to learning from incidents, complaints, patient feedback and significant events. Engage with new ways of working, including digital systems and service redesign, and contribute to evaluating and improving their effectiveness. Support effective use of the skills and expertise available across the multidisciplinary team. Work within practice policies, clinical pathways and agreed systems while exercising appropriate professional judgement. 6. Learning, Development & Teaching Maintain GMC registration, licence to practise, Performers List status and all other professional requirements necessary for the role. Maintain appropriate continuing professional development and participate fully in appraisal and revalidation. Take responsibility for maintaining professional competence and identifying individual learning and development needs. Contribute to the practice's learning culture through shared learning, reflection and professional discussion. As part of a Training Practice, contribute to the teaching, development and support of GP Registrars, Medical Students, nurses and other learners, appropriate to professional competence and experience. Share knowledge and expertise with colleagues and support multidisciplinary learning. PERSON SPECIFICATION Essential Fully qualified General Practitioner with current GMC registration and licence to practise. Inclusion on the NHS England Medical Performers List. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability and willingness to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. Commitment to continuity of care and taking responsibility for a pro-rata patient list. Willingness to contribute positively beyond individual clinical consultations to the effectiveness of the wider team and practice. Commitment to quality improvement, learning and development. Commitment to the Compass House values of Caring, Teamwork, Collaboration, Excellence, Listening and Innovation. Desirable Previous experience working within General Practice. Experience or interest in teaching and supporting learners. Experience of clinical audit or quality improvement. Experience or specialist interest relevant to an identified practice need.
