Summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated, and flexible Healthcare Support Worker to join our established multi-professional team on Ruby Ward, based at the Priority House, Maidstone
If you are passionate about delivering compassionate care to individuals experiencing acute mental health difficulties and are dedicated to respecting their rights and independence, we would love to welcome you to our team.
As a Healthcare Support Worker on Ruby Ward, you will play a key role in providing person-centred support to inpatients during acute phases of mental distress. Working closely with nursing and clinical colleagues on the ward, you will help create a safe, therapeutic environment that promotes recovery and self-reliance.
This position offers a rewarding opportunity to develop your skills through ongoing training while working as part of a supportive, collaborative healthcare team.
• Direct Patient Care & Support:Provide daily support to inpatients on Ruby Ward, encouraging involvement in therapeutic activities that foster independence and overall well-being.
• Physical Health Monitoring:Conduct required physical health checks, accurately record observations using the NEWS2 early warning system, and promptly report any changes to the nurse in charge.
• Clear Communication:Pass on routine information—verbally, in writing, or electronically—to team members, patients, carers, and external contacts to ensure seamless care.
• Carer & Patient Guidance:Offer practical support, encouragement, and advice to patients and their families or carers throughout their stay.
• Daily Ward Tasks:Carry out day-to-day care tasks as delegated by the shift lead or nurse in charge.
• Professional Development & Flexibility:Participate in regular training and self-development while adopting a flexible working pattern to meet shift needs on the ward
We are Kent and Medway Mental Health NHS Trust. We care for the mental health and wellbeing of people across Kent and Medway and are rated ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
Our teams support children, young people and adults with a wide range of mental health needs. We also provide specialist services, including all-age eating disorder services and neurodevelopmental assessments for children and young people, such as autism and ADHD.
Because we work across the whole county and across hospital and community settings, we can make care more joined up and easier to access for the people we serve.
Our vision is simple: we are here to help communities not just live with mental illness, but live well. It’s why we’re passionate about working with communities to make mental health care better for everyone. Everything we do is guided by our values: caring, inclusive, curious and confident.
Join us if you share our passion for better mental health care and want to be part of a team that’s working well together.
