Summary

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us.

Please see below for detailed job description of the role.

This vacancy does not meet the Home Office threshold for sponsorship; therefore we are unable to accept applications from candidates who do not have the right to work in the UK.

As part of our team, you will support the day-to-day operations of the aseptic unit.

This role plays a vital part in the preparation, labelling, assembly, and supply of aseptic products, ensuring all work is carried out in line with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).

By maintaining high standards of accuracy and compliance, you will contribute directly to patient safety and the delivery of high-quality pharmacy services.

As part of the pharmacy team, you will help ensure the aseptic facility operates efficiently and safely, supporting environmental monitoring, documentation, and stock control processes.

Your work will contribute to maintaining regulatory compliance and ensuring continuity of service, ultimately improving patient outcomes and supporting organisational objectives.

You will collaborate closely with pharmacy colleagues and other healthcare professionals, escalating issues when necessary to maintain service quality and timeliness.

The role reports to the Aseptic Services Supervisor (or designated line manager) and involves working as part of a multidisciplinary team dedicated to delivering a safe, effective, and patient-centred service.

As one of the largest acute teaching Trusts in England, we offer learning and development opportunities to help you achieve the career you aspire to. UHS is rated ‘Good’ by the CQC and in the latest national NHS Staff Survey, we were in the top 10 acute trusts for staff engagement and for staff recommending the hospital as a place to work or receive care.

We support flexible working and will consider requests taking into account the needs of the service. UHS employees are able to access a range of NHS discounts, are entitled to a minimum of 35 days paid holiday (pro rata), and we offer a generous pension scheme.

Southampton is an attractive place to live and work situated on the south coast, with an international airport and direct trains to London. The New Forest National Park and beaches of the Jurassic coast are also right on our doorstep. The city offers living costs 30% lower than London and 17 schools rated outstanding by Ofsted.

We believe that using technology wisely shows strong time management and commitment to innovation. However, personalising your recruitment application to highlight your unique skills and experiences is crucial. Relying too heavily on generic, AI-generated content instead of drawing from your own strengths and accomplishments may lead to your application being rejected if multiple candidates present identical or similar information.

In this role, your key responsibilities will includeworking in our brand-new aseptic suite as part of a team of experienced technicians and support workers. Your main duties will include:

•    Passing and continuing to maintain required spray/wipe and broth validations

•    Accurately and safely manufacturing treatments using aseptic technique, (including novel and clinical trial medicines) following standard operating procedures

•    Covering reception duties when required including greeting other healthcare professionals, taking phone calls, and receiving in and sending prescriptions whilst maintaining confidentiality

•    Taking responsibility for the completion of daily documentation as required for an aseptic unit

What we’re looking for

We are looking for an individual with excellent communication skills who is a good team player. You will need to be accurate in your working with a strong attention to detail.

Previous aseptic experience would be an advantage, but an opportunity to develop will be provided to help your skills to evolve.

We are keen to encourage you to develop as a person by offering you structured training and all the support and encouragement, you’d expect from a leading teaching Trust. You will also be offered the opportunity to complete a GPhC recognised qualification.
