Summary
The Anaesthetic department and the Intensive care Unit at the Queen Elizabeth Queen Mother Hospital are active in audits and research and there will be plenty of opportunity to participate in Quality improvement projects and Research. Regular formal teaching sessions and journal club also form part of the learning available. Anaesthesia is provided for elective and emergency surgery in the operating theatre complex of 6 main, 3 day-surgery and 1 obstetric theatre. The CEPOD theatre and obstetric theatre are available 24 hours per day. There is a resident anaesthetic consultant for CEPOD from 8 am to 6 pm on weekdays and for part of the day at weekends.
We will work with you to shape the ideal job plan upon successful appointment, and review it with you after three months and then annually – so you can keep the perfect fit. We will also provide the essential resources to support you in your duties, including administrative support. It will include pre, per and post-operative management of surgical patients, assisting with care of the patients on the ICU, and provision of assistance with resuscitation calls and acute pain queries. Travel to other sites within the Trust will have to be anticipated to allow for full teaching experience.
