Why you should work for us | West Northamptonshire Council

What will you be doing?

As a Transport Scheduler, you will be responsible for planning and coordinating transport arrangements for customers attending Eleanor Lodge's Day Centre and community-based activities across Northamptonshire. Using a computerised scheduling system, you will organise efficient pick-up and drop-off journeys, taking into account customer locations, attendance times, individual schedules, and driver availability.

Working with a complex two-week rota, you will coordinate transport for up to 23 customers, some attending full-day sessions and others attending for shorter activities throughout the day. You will allocate journeys to staff who drive the service's minibuses, ensuring routes are planned efficiently and customers are collected and returned safely and on time.

The role is office-based and requires excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage changing transport requirements while maintaining accurate schedules and records. You will liaise with drivers, Community Support Workers, customers, carers, and external professionals to ensure the smooth delivery of transport services.

About you

Highly organised, dependable and able to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail, with a natural ability to plan and coordinate services in a busy environment. Strong administrative experience, including managing records, processing information and working with financial systems and procedures, is essential, alongside confidence in using Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel and Outlook, with excellent IT and keyboard skills.

A professional and approachable communicator, comfortable liaising with a wide range of people and producing clear and accurate correspondence and documentation. The ability to work independently, prioritise workloads, meet deadlines and adapt to changing service needs is key, as is a good understanding of confidentiality, data protection and GDPR. An awareness of equality, diversity and the varied needs of the people who access our services is also important.

A good standard of education, including English and Maths, together with an NVQ/QCF Level 2 qualification in a relevant subject, or equivalent administrative experience, is essential.

A Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject would be advantageous, as would experience of supporting less experienced colleagues, working with management information systems and an understanding of local authority services and the communities we support.

Most importantly, a positive and collaborative approach, a passion for delivering an efficient and reliable service, and a commitment to our THRIVE values will help make a real difference to the adults who access Eleanor Lodge and its services.

This is an office-based position working

18.5 hours per week. Hours can be worked flexibly, at your discretion, between

7:00am and 10:00pm, provided transport schedules are planned and maintained to meet the needs of the service.

This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore subject to an enhanced DBS certificate. It is also a regulated activity and will be subject to a Children and Adults Barred List check. West Northamptonshire Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
